Trainer – Power BI
SCOPE OF WORK, QUALIFICATIONS AND TARGET PARTICIPANTS
The Power BI Trainer will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive training curriculum tailored to lower-level learners.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a Training Needs Assessment (TNA) to tailor curriculum to participants’ technical baseline and data functions.
- Design and deliver a practical 2-day training curriculum focused on Power BI fundamentals, hands-on dashboard creation, and data visualization techniques.
- Develop training materials including presentation slides, practice datasets, step-by-step handouts, and post-training resources for self-learning.
- Mentor participants through real-data exercises drawn from government workflows (e.g., project tracking, investment dashboards, public finance reports).
- Conduct pre- and post-assessments to evaluate skill acquisition.
- Prepare a final summary report with participant feedback, outcomes, and future upskilling recommendations.
- Training Curriculum to be delivered:
- Introduction to Power BI Interface and Ecosystem: Understanding the key components Power BI Desktop, Service, and Mobile.
- Data Connection & Transformation (Power Query): Loading data from Excel, CSV, databases; cleaning and transforming data using Power Query Editor.
- Data Modeling and Relationships: Creating data models, managing relationships, and optimizing performance.
- Visualizations & Dashboard Design: Building dynamic charts, tables, slicers, maps, and custom visuals for interactive reporting.
- DAX Fundamentals: Writing basic formulas for measures and calculated columns to enhance analysis.
- Real-World Dashboard Project: Participants build and present dashboards using MPSEZ-relevant data (e.g., investment tracking, infrastructure rollout, sectoral performance).
- Publishing & Sharing: Publishing to Power BI Service, embedding dashboards, setting up auto-refresh, and user access controls.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, IT, Business Intelligence, Public Policy, or related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in business intelligence and data visualization, with proven training experience.
- Expertise in Microsoft Power BI (Power BI Desktop, Service, DAX, Power Query).
- Experience training government or policy-focused teams is an advantage.
- Strong communication and coaching skills to support adult learners of varying technical backgrounds.
- Ability to tailor content to practical government use-cases.
- Target Participants:
- Dynamic officials, and mid-to-senior professionals (approximately 20-25 participants)
- 90% of participants hold postgraduate degrees and work on policy design, investment promotion, marketing strategy, and public finance.
