Position Summary

Classification: Monthly Lump Sum

Type of Appointment:Six-month consultancy contract

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Cambodia and direct supervision of the Project Development and Reporting Officer, and in close coordination with relevant programme teams, the Media and Communications Assistant will support the planning, development, and implementation of internal and external communication and visibility activities for IOM Cambodia country office (CO).

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Support the implementation of CO’s external communications strategies in line with the Organization’s strategic communications priorities and guidelines, promoting an accurate narrative on migration-related issues with the communities, migrants, media, public, the UN and other key partners. 
  • In coordination with the CoM and program staff, produce, collect and disseminate public information material highlighting the CO’s work, including press briefing notes, human interest stories, newsletters, photographs and videos. 
  • Prepare public information materials for IOM press briefing notes, regular newsletters, website and social media in clear and concise language, and facilitate appropriate gender awareness in all IOM communications. 
  • Engage with the UN Country Team’s Communication Group and other relevant actors and support the development of media messages on key issues by working together on campaigns and issues of joint concern. 
  • Manage and update IOM Cambodia country office’s website and social media platforms, ensuring timely and strategic publication of multimedia content. 
  • Supporting the production of multimedia materials, including photography and video documentation of IOM Cambodia country office’s activities and events.  
  • Support the CoM by drafting statements, key messages, talking points and other relevant information material upon request. 
  • Monitor national and regional media coverage related to migration and IOM Cambodia country office’s areas of work and preparing summaries and analyses for internal use. 
  • Check the inclusion of appropriate gender awareness in the CO’s communications. 
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned. 
  • Performance indicators for the evaluation of results
  • Minimum 15 social media posts per month; posting new content every two days
  • Analytics reports
  • The mission’s social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, are well managed.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related fields from an accredited institution with four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working in communications, public information, or media, preferably in an international setting. 
  • Proven skills in content creation for different platforms including social media, web, and print. 
  • Experience with photography, videography, and editing software is a strong asset. 
  • Familiarity with IOM and the UN system is an advantage. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, Outlook;
  • Attention to detail, ability to organize paperwork in a methodical way;
  • Discreet, details and clients-oriented, patient and willingness to learn new things; and,
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Languages
  • Fluency in English and Khmer is required.
