The project’s impact will be expanded access to sustainable and safe water supply services for the urban population in Cambodia. This will contribute to the government’s 2025 target of 100% coverage. The outcome will be improved water supply infrastructure and service provision in nine towns. The key project outputs are: (i) Existing water supply systems improved in seven towns; (ii) New water supply system provided for Stung Treng; (iii) Water supply coverage increased in Siem Reap; (iv) Project implementation supported and operation and maintenance developed. The project for $34 million was approved on 11 December 2014, became effective on 16 June 2015, and has its original closing date as 30 June 2020. The project closing date is being extended for 30 months until 31 December 2022.
The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) is the executing agency for the Urban Water Supply Project (UWSP). A Project Implementation Assistance Consultant (PIAC) firm was engaged by MISTI for assisting the PMU with technical, safeguards, accounting and management aspects of the project. The PIAC will not be responsible for safeguards related matters from 01 May 2020.
