In 2017, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the AIMF decided to work together to improve urban sanitation and health: the Urban Sanitation and Health Initiative (ISSV) was launched. This partnership relies on the AIMF’s strong capacity and experience in accompanying local governments in successful project implementation. First partnership of its kind between a major private philanthropy organization and the francophone local governments’ network, the Initiative will enable the implementation of fifteen projects in four years, organized around three themes: family planning, sanitation via fecal sludge management, and emergency preparedness.
Phnom Penh City Hall was selected to participate as a pilot city to the Urban Sanitation and Health Initiative in the fields of fecal sludge management and emergency preparedness.
