The American Center for International Labor Solidarity (Solidarity Center) empowers men and women around the world to earn safe and dignified livelihoods, exercise their fundamental labor rights, and have a voice in shaping work conditions and public policies that impact their lives.

Our 221 professional staff work in about 60 countries with 400-plus labor unions, pro-worker nongovernmental organizations, legal-aid groups, human rights defenders, women’s associations, advocacy coalitions, and others to support workers—in garment factories, home service, seafood processing, mining, agriculture, informal marketplaces, manufacturing, the public sector, and beyond—as they exercise their rights, including organizing for safer work sites, demanding living wages, improving laws (and the enforcement of existing laws) that protect working people, and fight exploitation and abuse.

Working with Cambodian unions and other allies in all major industries, the Solidarity Center (SC) seeks to protect and advance worker rights through training and support, including legal advocacy, as workers increasingly stand up for their rights and demand living wages and decent working conditions. In support of this mission, SC is quality candidates to fulfill the following duties below:

Announcement Positions

Program Officer (Social Protections)

Duties
  • Programmatic implementation:
  • Coordinate implementation and evaluation of program activities, in accordance with approved program strategy and work plan documents
  • Contribute to regular and timely program planning and monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities
  • Assist in the collection and compilation of data for reports and report writing
  • Draft internal reports and assist with drafting of required donor reports
  • Assist with the clearance of the expenditures of program activities
  • Facilitate trainings, workshops, and meetings
  • Assist in the planning, preparation, and implementation of meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences, and other related events, including preparing agendas, participant materials, and taking minutes of meetings
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for organization of meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences, retreats etc.
  • Prepare invitation letters to participants and stakeholders and follow up with the attendance of the participants for the meetings, trainings etc.Assist with translations and interpretation when needed
  • Any other duty assigned by the Country Program Director
Requirements
  • University Degree in a relevant field or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing
  • Proficiency in English is compulsory
  • Ability to set priorities, to multi-task and problem solve.
  • Organizational and filling skills (logistics and financing)
  • Proven experience with MS Office Applications is a must
  • Desired experience
  • Preferred candidates will have experience implementing, monitoring and reporting projects in line with approved program plans, ideally with large international development funders, such as United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
  • Knowledge of social protection frameworks
  • A record of strong stakeholder management experience and effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience in trade unions, social justice or development
  • Experience with G Suite (Gmail, Google Calendar, Hangouts, Drive, Docs, & Sheets)

Senior Translator

  • Category: Translation / Interpretation

Duties
  • Professional Interpreter and Translator:
  • Provide written translation for official correspondence, letters, technical manuals and other instructional documents, reports, forms, articles, publications, web pages, etc. (English-Khmer and Khmer-English)
  • Provide oral interpretation during events and meetings, facilitating effective communication and relaying of concepts and ideas between participants operating in English and Khmer (both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting)
  • Attend conferences, meetings, etc. as an official interpreter and mediate discussions (both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting)
  • Systems Management:
  • Develop and manage a filing system for translated documents
  • Oversee scheduling and manage workload of office’s interpretation and translation needs, including coordination of office staff supporting interpretation and translation work and ensuring that multiple simultaneous events and projects can be covered
  • Evaluate the needs of the organization and coordinate purchasing of equipment and/or software related to translation and interpretation
  • Any other duty assigned by the Country Program Director
Requirements
  • University Degree in a relevant field or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Excellent bilingual communication in spoken and written English-Khmer
  • Proven experience in both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting
  • Proficient enunciation and pronunciation skills
  • Strong listening skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient understanding of cultural sensitivity and ability to collaborate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Honest, reliable, and commitment to strict confidentiality
  • Ability to set priorities, to multi-task, problem solve, and take initiative
  • Organizational and filling skills (logistics and financing)
  • Proven experience with MS Office Applications is a must
