NatureLife Cambodia is a national conservation organization. The organization was established with technical support from BirdLife International and financial support from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund through the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Refer to its 10 years strategy, currently, NatureLife is working at several protected areas including Beoung Prek Lapouv, Anlung Pring, Kok Kapik and Stung Sen. With funding support from Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), NatureLife is seeking a suitably qualified individual to be part of the project team to support the management and conservation of Stung Sen Ramsar Site. The overall project goal of this project is to increase management effectiveness and maximize conservation impacts in the Stung Sen Ramsar site and build the capacity of NatureLife staff.

This is a two-year position, with the possibility of further extension subject to satisfactory performance review. The position is based in Phnom Penh with frequent visits and stays at Stung Sen of Kampong Thom Province. The ideal candidate will have at least two years’ prior experience in community engagement and be familiar with community protected area establishment.

This position for Stung Sen Ramsar Site

Reporting to: Acting CEO and Stung Sen project officer

Reporting to jobholder: N/A

Working relationships: NatureLife Cambodia staff, BirdLife International staff, Ministry of Environment, provincial department of Environment in Kampong Thom, local authorities

Duties
  • Main Duties:
  • Develop monthly work plan and progress reports as directed
  • Prepare monthly report (biodiversity and enforcement)
  • Organize top priority training courses for Stung Sen Ramsar site management team
  • Provide training and coaching to the rangers as required, by getting strong support from BirdLife officer
  • Support management teams at Stung Sen Ramsar site to implement wetland site management and monitoring protocol
  • Assist to ensure the law enforcement monitoring system (SMART) is implemented
  • Lead and join ranger patrol teams to enforce the protected area law
  • Work with admin and finance officers on project expenditure
  • Ensure project equipment is maintained in good condition
  • Use of BirdLife and NatureLife Cambodia funds in line with the organizations operational practices and norms
  • Assist other wetland team members in wetland education, monitoring, and management
  • Willing to perform other duties as requested by line managers/project officer
  • Limits of authority
  • Procurement of project equipment as directed by the line manager.
  • Conduct negotiations with local authorities as directed by the line manager.
  • Disperse project funds as directed by the line manager.
  • Not to make any statement on behalf of NatureLife unless directed by the line manager.
Requirements
  • At least bachelor degree in biological sciences, natural resources management and development, environmental science, land and forestry, geography or a relevant field
  • A good understanding of the wildlife conservation context in Cambodia
  • Be able to basically do bird identity if possible
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Ability to work independently
  • Computer literacy in Ms. Office, skills on ArcGIS/QGIS & SPSS are preferable
  • Be curious, productive, highly committed
  • Be highly motivated, and able to work under pressure
  • High person attitude and believe in team work spirit
  • Willing to travel, stay in project areas and stay overnight on floating area
  • Interested in bird conservation and had basic knowledge in bird identification and ecology are preferable.
