The Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) has received a project from the seventh round of the Mekong-Korea Cooperation Fund (MKCF). The project has received approval from the Mekong Institute under the theme "Integrated Watershed Management of the Mekong Basin Tributary for Adaptation to Climate Change in Cambodia." This project will be implemented in the Stung Prek Tnaot Basin and the Mekong River Basin. This large river basin frequently experiences disasters such as floods exacerbated by the effects of climate change and land cover changes. These factors impact people, animals, property, infrastructure, and socio-economics. Research on river basin management is crucial to mitigate these impacts and provide policy recommendations for improving sustainable river basin management."

Project Objective

The long-term and short-term objectives of the project are detailed as follows:

The long-term objectives are:

  1. Improve flood resilience and reduce damage and loss for social and economic development in the river basin.
  2. Strengthen watershed management under climate and land-use change pressure by integrating natural base solutions (NBS).
  3. Enhance policy direction in sustainable watershed management from the national to the sub-national level.

The IWRM, Capacity building and policy development Specialist will be recruited based on an open and competitive process and contracted under the WP4: Capacity building and policy development. The objective of this assignment is to

  • Develop capacity building on integrated river basin management for multi-stakeholders and at a regional scale (Mekong countries).
  • Exchange output and capacity building at a regional scale
  • Policy engagement and development at the national, subnational, and Stakeholders.

The project’s target area falls within three communities in the province of Kampong Speu, at relevant national and sub-national government provincial departments. The specialist will work closely with the Project manager and project coordinator for review and comments and submit the agreed expected deliverables for approval.

 

Hydrology Risk specialist

The Hydrology Risk specialist will be recruited based on an open and competitive process andcontracted under the WP3: Pilot natured-based solution for flood resilience and soil erosion improvement. The objective of this assignment is to

  • Conduct review of the project area and supporting in Demonstration sites identification for the selected flood- and soil erosion-prone areas.
  • Support in identify Proper NBS techniques responding to flood and soil erosion were identified.
  • Coordinate and support the application of Suitable NBS applied in the selected sites for flood resilience improvement and soil erosion reduction under climate change within the river basin.
  • Joint develop the NBS guidance developed for replication to other lower Mekong watersheds with NBS expert.
