Job Summary

The Community Coordinator is responsible for supporting the community development projects of the Song Saa Foundation (henceforth SSF). This includes collaborating with the Program Manager and other SSF staff to support SSF’s annual workplan and budget, to implement this work plan in accordance to budgetary requirements, to identify and support fund raising efforts, and promote the work of the Foundation within and outside the Song Saa Collective. It also involves the delivery of Sala Song Saa tours and other activities that engage with Song Saa Private Island (SSPI) guests.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Primary roles:
  • Coordination of operational community-focused projects and their associated budgets, including community outreach activities (Boat of Hope, youth group, waste management, livelihood support, education etc.)
  • Fulfill all donor requirements as specified by the Program Manager or Project Manager
  • Collaborate with the on-island team and Program Manager to meet all on-island reporting requirements
  • Support the partnership between SSPI and SSF
  • Support the Project Manager in their daily tasks, as required
  • Specific responsibilities:
  • Support the SSF with all community-based activities to ensure that our engagement with the local children and other village groups remains strong
  • Support the relationship between SSF and the local villages in the archipelago, specifically Prek Svay village
  • Look after our community education centre, the “Sala Song Saa” including its organic garden and library
  • Delivery of educational workshops to SSPI staff
  • Support with International Medical Relief to facilitate the annual medical mission
  • Support the SSF Discovery Centre and delivery of SSF activities with SSPI guests (e.g. community tours, mangrove kayaking and snorkel safaris)
  • Support the SSF 2020 Workplan in achieving its goals
  • Work as a strong team member with other SSF employees, supporting extra activities whenever possible
  • Extra duties:
  • The Community Coordinator may be asked to undertake duties that are not included in this job description. They should agree to undertake these duties as long as the request is reasonable and will not affect their health, safety or security.
Requirements:
  • Khmer national with the ability to speak conversational English
  • Good communication skills when working within a team
  • A builder of positive relationships and excellent interpersonal skills with people of all ages
  • A willingness to be actively engaged with children from nursery age through to teenagers
  • Innovative; is able to plan and implement fun activities for our local children and the wider community
  • Ability to work independently and under their own initiative whilst prioritising workload and meeting deadlines
  • A dedicated individual who is committed to encouraging public involvement in community-based work, inclusive of conservation issues
  • A willingness to engage with Song Saa Private Island guests to raise awareness of the Foundation’s work and to encourage their active participation
  • A willingness to undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Project Manager and a desire to plan new ideas for community engagement
  • Flexibility in relation to working hours; for example, on certain days community meetings or public engagement may mean that a working day is from 8 am - 5 pm instead of 9 am - 6 pm

Annual leave and public holidays: 18 days annual leave plus all Cambodian public holidays (c 28 days per year). This position operates on a 45-hour per week basis, over six working days.
