TEAM PURPOSE: Oxfam has been implementing the Influencing Just Energy Transition Program in Asia since 2022. Asia’s progress in renewable energy transition is considered key to determine global outcomes in the abatement of climate change. Renewable energy development is expected to rapidly upscale in coming years, with green investors demonstrating strong interest in Asia and ASEAN member states.
A just transition to clean energy has the potential to address both the climate crisis and energy poverty and inequality. However, this can only be achieved with a focus on justice. Without such a focus, the transition may worsen existing injustices and inequalities, leading to public resistance and delays in the transition, particularly in low-income countries and communities.
