Peace Corps Cambodia is hiring multiple positions for the July 2020 Pre-Service Training (PST) for its 14th group of Peace Corps Volunteers. This announcement includes three different opportunities. Specifically, Peace Corps Cambodia seeks to hire multiple Language and Cross-culture Facilitators (LCFs), two (2) Homestay & Site Coordinators (HSCs), and two (2) Technical Trainer Assistants (TTA) for our Pre-Service Training (PST) for the English Teaching Project. Language and Cross-Culture Facilitator (LCF)

WORK PERIOD:      June 25, 2020 – September 11, 2020 

LCFs live and work closely with a small group of American Peace Corps Trainees throughout Pre-Service Training. LCFs conduct Khmer language classes and help small groups of 5-6 Peace Corps Trainees (PCTs) learn Cambodian culture and the skills needed to live in Cambodia. They must follow prescribed curriculum and effectively use a variety of language training techniques and methodologies. LCFs serve as a prime bridge between the Trainees and their host families and training communities. LCFs also participate in the evaluation of the language training program. The LCF operates under the direct guidance and supervision of the Language and Cultural Coordinator (LCC).

Duties
  • Writes or modifies daily language lesson plans using Peace Corps Cambodia Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) design and sends them to LCC to approve before classes.
  • Conducts language classes, making appropriate lesson modifications based upon the learning needs of the Trainees and feedback received from them.
  • Prepares all necessary materials, visual aids, activities, worksheets independently and/or under the guidance of LCC,
  • Helps Trainees to acquire cross-cultural knowledge and skills by acting as a language and cultural information liaison, by integrating cultural situations and discussions into language classes, and creating opportunities for Trainees to interact and ask questions in an open and unthreatening forum.
  • Submits weekly progress report regarding Trainee progress in language acquisition, and cultural understanding.
  • Provides timely and regular feedback to Trainees on progress in Language, cross culture and other areas. Makes recommendations regarding Trainee language status at the end of the training program.
  • Assists Trainees in practicing language learning outside the classroom, especially language that relates to safety and cultural integration, encourages Trainees to interact with community people, establish contacts with institutions and obtaining resources at the local level.
  • Assures appropriate technical vocabulary/language has been covered before field trips, school visits and facilitates practice of technical Language.
  • Asks for assistance from trainers if necessary background materials have not been provided in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Selected candidate must be able to live in the selected rural community during the entire period of employment.
  • A University Degree, equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in education, teaching, or related field.Language Proficiency: Native Khmer Speaker. English Level III (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing and ability to use English as an instructive language.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in Cambodia
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • One or more years of experience teaching English
  • One or more years of experience teaching adults
  • One or more years of experience teaching Khmer to foreigners.
 

Homestay & Site Coordinator (HSC)

WORK PERIOD:      June 1, 2020 – September 11, 2020

HSCs are responsible for coordinating the identification, selection and development of Peace Corps Trainees (PCTs) and Language and Cultural Facilitators (LCFs) home-stays in the training villages. They will provide ongoing support and cross-cultural feedback to both host families and PCTs/LCFs. Additionally, as the Site Coordinator, they will be the primary liaison between the hub site training staff and the LCFs, school officials, other community resources in the district training sites, and PST staff. They communicate with the Language and Cultural Coordinator (LCC), Training Manager (TM), and Technical Trainers on a regular basis and attend all PST logistical meetings. The HSC operates under the direct guidance and supervision of the Training Manager (TM).

Duties
  • Identifies potential host families ensures that they all are visited, assessed and evaluated against the selection criteria. Further ensures that all Trainee host families have had an orientation and an opportunity to ask questions about their responsibilities.
  • Mediates and resolves housing issues as they arise between Trainees and host families or landlords, in consultation with the Training Manager, Director of Programming and Training, Core PST staff, and other Training Staff, as appropriate. 
  • Maintains accurate and complete files on host families (contact information, interview/ assessment forms, questionnaires, list of host families to use and not use again, etc.,) and share with Program and Training staff, PCMO and SSC as appropriate.
  • Liaises with the local authorities and community for different training events.
  • Mobilizes community resources for training activities.
Requirements
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Selected candidate must be able to live in the selected rural community during the entire period of employment.
  • A Bachelor Degree in any field
  • Language Proficiency: Native Khmer Speaker. English Level III (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing.
  • At least two years’ experience related to administrative/logistic support, working with western foreigners, especially Americans;
  • Qualifications Desired:
  • Previous experience with Peace Corps or similar international volunteer organizations
  • One year experience in program administration or coordination
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Knowledge of diverse customs and culture of Cambodia;
  • Ability to interact appropriately with Cambodians at all levels, especially local villagers and District officials;
  • High level of knowledge regarding training sites;
  • Ability to work within cross-cultural teams, including Trainees, Volunteers, and Khmer and American staff;
  • Sound interpersonal skills with an emphasis on group dynamics;
  • Experience working at a grass-roots community level; Keen on learning new skills
 

Technical Trainer Assistant (TTA)

Peace Corps Cambodia seeks two Technical Trainer Assistants (TTA) for our K14 Pre-Service Training (PST) for the English Teaching Project. The Technical Trainer Assistant (TTA) lives and works closely with a small group of American Peace Corps Trainees (PCT) throughout Pre-Service Training. He/she conducts technical Khmer language lessons based on Education. Additionally, the TTA provides PCTs Cambodian cultural knowledge, and context. The TTA supports Technical Trainers by following a prescribed curriculum, working in and with the community to create community based learning activities and providing analysis of how the education system functions. The TTA plans sessions with the Technical Trainers and operates under the direct guidance and supervision of the Training Manager (TM).

Duties
  • Coordinates with Technical Trainer and LCFs to plan appropriate technical sessions.
  • Supports technical sessions by building good relationships within the community and is able to mobilize support from community officials and members.

  • Experience designing, leading, or delivering technical, cultural, or language training.
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • More than three years’ experience in designing and delivering teacher training courses.
  • Understanding of current education initiatives in Cambodia.
  • 1-2 years’ of management experience in an educational context, such as with a school or education program.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a leadership capacity with new professionals and/or new teachers.
  • An advanced degree in TEFL/TESOL, Education, Training, or other related field.
