At Khmer Organic Cooperative, we are providing safe food to Cambodian people while at the same time helping farmer community.

KOC is a producer, wholesaler and retailer of organic food products. The company holds Organic EU and US certifications since 2017. KOC has its own farm and work closely with a large number of local farmers that benefit from technical support to ensure the production meets the requirements of the organic certifications. The company has been successful in the domestic market by opening 2 stores in Phnom Penh and supplying supermarkets and restaurants. KOC can be considered as a prominent actor of the organic agricultural sector in Cambodia, who strongly advocates towards more inclusive rural development by assisting local cooperatives and farmers.

Market access for small holder farmers who are producing vegetable is still facing challenges along the supply chain. Lack of market data available regarding to the demand of using local agricultural produce is still challenging for private sector. Reliable market data will provide insights, clarity and assurance for the private sector to move faster and in the right business direction.

CONTRACT PURPOSE AND EXPECTED RESULTS

Objective of the study:

The objective of the study is to understand and analyze consumer behavior of choosing organic and safe fresh produce for markets in Phom Penh.

Purpose:

The findings will be used to validate realistic and economically viable strategies and improvements for Khmer Organic Cooperative, to further expand fresh produce business in local markets. The results, conclusions and recommendations of the research will be critical for the implementation of KOC’s business direction for fresh produce and other locally grown and produced foods.

Results to be achieved by the Contractor:

  1. The analysis of consumer perceptions of organic and safe fresh produce grown locally. The findings should include but are not limited to quality, variety, health, price, location
  2. The findings and results of what influence consumer choices and preferences to purchase or not to purchase organic and safe fresh produce from Khmer Organic Cooperative. The findings should include but are not limited to product knowledge, variety, price, location and accessibility, quality etc.
  3. The analysis of what influence supermarket and premium market choices to purchase and distribute organic and safe fresh produce from Khmer Organic Cooperative. The findings should include but not limited to competition, price, location, variety, product knowledge, quality, target market preferences etc.
  4. Findings and results of consumers and distribution partner suggestions and recommendations in using and buying organic and safe fresh produce from Khmer Organic Cooperative.
  5. Critical key recommendations for short, medium and long-term actions to improve organic and safe fresh produce to boost market locally.
  6. A final presentation of results and recommendations and final study report submission.
Requirements

  • Qualifications and skills
  • University degree (MBA, MA) or other equivalent qualification in economics/business management and/or social sciences,
  • At least 10 years’ experience in market research and study to determine viability of potential product entry within horticulture sector,
  • At least 5 years’ experience in international marketing and/or export development, including branding, product positioning, etc.
  • General and specific professional experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience in advising/coaching Cambodian export companies across different sectors,
  • Strong networking capabilities among cross/border value chain/market participants, including development partners and governmental organizations,
  • Fluency/Proficiency in English
 

How to Apply

SUBMISSION OF PROPOSAL

The consultant is expected to take complete responsibility for all the activities identified in the attached TOR. The Technical Proposal should contain a complete description and explanation of the proposed methodology for the Assignment (work plan), time-line, names and qualifications of allocated personnel and any other resources that the consultant will make available to execute the assignment and achieve the study objective.

The Financial proposal should stipulate the fees for the assignment. All fee and costs are to be expressed in USD only. The Technical and Financial Proposals shall be evaluated by a technical committee of the company.
