Safe Haven provides intervention and support for children with disabilities and their families at children's homes in Siem Reap Province.

We are looking to hire 2 candidates from Kampong Thom province and 2 from Preah Vihear to come to Siem Reap for 12 months of training with pay: They will learn about child development from trainers at Safe Haven Medical Outreach for 1 year before going back to home province (KT/PV) to work as Child Development Workers.

The Child Development Worker supports the development and well-being of children with disabilities, guides the caregiver to understand their child’s needs, and helps the child enjoy the process of developing their skills through play strategies. Visits take place in the families' homes throughout the province.

Duties
  • Assess children’s development in the 4 different areas (social/personal, fine motor, language/cognition, and gross motor) through office visits and field visits in Siem Reap province
  • As necessary, make treatment goals and plan activities to teach children skills in different development areas
  • Educate and talk with parents and caregivers about treatment plans, child development, disability, and the importance of intervention and parental involvement
  • Complete documentation for every contact with each child/family and for treatment plans in English
  • Improve English language skills during English classes paid for by Safe Haven so that it is easier to learn from English resources
  • Plan, prepare for, and facilitate small groups
  • Collaborate with other Safe Haven staff (Nurses, Physiotherapists, and Social Workers) to schedule home visits and office appointments and to support the treatment plan
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, supervision meetings, and trainings
  • Understand and follow all Safe Haven policies, including child protection policy

Requirements
  • Experience working with children
  • Interest in a 4-year project working with children with disabilities and their families, and in the community
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Fluency in Khmer and good communication skills in English
  • Responsibility handling cash and receipts
  • Flexible attitude, creative problem-solving skills, open to new ideas and perspectives
  • Good collaboration and respectful communication with colleagues, positive teamwork and attitude
  • Good customer service skills with clients, families, and other organizations
  • Ability to drive moto to home visits and other appointments in the community
