with Cambodian Conservation Agriculture Research for Development Center
Since 2004, innovative cropping systems and practices based on the principles of Conservation Agriculture (CA) have been designed, tested, and validated for pilot extension with the farmers for both upland and lowland agroecosystems in Cambodia under collaboration between Department of Agricultural Land Resources (DALRM)/GDA and CIRAD and fund from various donors namely French Development Agency (AFD). Results showed that CA improved soil fertility, reduced labor force, conserved water, increased yield and smallholder farmer’s income. Conservation Agriculture Services Center (CASC) of DALRM are partnered with other development partners especially private sector to sustainably scale up the CA practices valuing their crucial roles in providing technologies, operational know-how and information needed for different value-chains.
MetKasekor model is a new extension model, developed to scaling up the CA practice via government agents to smallholder farmers. This model emphasizes the important involvement of diverse institutions including national-level departments such as Department of Agricultural Engineering (DAEng), DARLM, Department of Extension of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DEAFF), Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (PDAFF) and private companies in order to carry out a successful extension on the CA practices.
Conservation Agriculture Services Center of DALRM in partnership with CIRAD (CASC/DALRM-CIRAD) act as a key institution to transfer technical knowledge to PDAFFs on their respective fields related to the CA practice. Once PDAFFs are trained and well-equipped with CA knowledge, they will work together with private companies to provide extension to cooperatives, and early adopters— potential groups that could further disseminate the CA practices to smallholder farmers. During the implementation (2021-2024), Swisscontact and CIRAD will provide necessary technical and financial supports to pilot the model in Battambang and Preah Vihear province.
Term & location: The duty station is based in Rovieng district, Preah Vihear province with time-totime traveling to other target areas.
