Coalition of Cambodian Farmer Community (CCFC) is a membership-based organization founded on January 11th, 2011 by 12 communities from Kandal, Svay Rieng and Preah Sihanouk who work to address issues on land and natural resource management, and forced eviction in order to promote livelihoods and dignity of farmers to fully participate in local development through community organizing and empowerment, advocacy, and strengthening institutional capacity.

For more effective advocacy of our farmers members, CCFC is going to conduct to two researches, the first one focuses on Impacts of Pesticide Usage aims to determine the health and livelihood impacts from the pesticide on small scale-farmers (farmers who owned agricultural land less than 1 hectare) in Ror Meashek, Rom Doul, and Svay Chrom districts, Svay Reing province in order to build awareness and use for further evident based advocacy, and second research focuses on Impact of Economic Land Concession (ELC) to determine the impacts of the ELC on socioeconomic and human rights of the farmers in Amlang and Thpong districts, Kampong Speu province.

CCFC is seeking a qualify Cambodian national to be fulfill as position as Research Advisor to conduct two above mentioned research projects.

Research on Impacts of Pesticide Usage

The Participatory Research (PR) on Impacts of Pesticide Usage aims to determine the health and livelihood impacts from the pesticide on small scale-farmers (farmers who own agricultural land less than 1 hectare) and local communities who are living in Romeas Hek and Svay Chrom districts, of Svay Rieng in order to build awareness and to use for further advocacy evident based in terms of the negative impacts of thoese related pesticides. The research will kick off from March until October 2020. It it vitally important to its small-scale farmers whose activists and members are profoundly aware on how to contain the pesticides from polluting. Nevertheless, they are able to mitigate and to cease those issues, by adjusting their knowledgable mindset in away to using with sorts of existing-organic origin such as compost manure, green manure, and other related stuffs on techniques such as crop rotation and companion planting in the fields of agriculture and vetigatables.

In the frame of PR will commonly engage its local leaders, and activists (community management committee , CMC), provincial committee (PC), CCFC’s staff, and stakeholders to join as a collaborative research since the very beginning of the research framework as such: the research designing, data collecting, deeply analyzing, and report writing. The result of the research will be launched among CMCs, PCs, CSOs partners, and be widely distributed to public by the end of the year as well.

Research on Impacts of the Economic Land Concession (ELC)

What are the socio-economic and human rights impacts of Economic Land Concession (ELC) on peasants in Oral and Thpong district, Kampong Spue province as well as others farming around ELC in Cambodia?

General Objective

To determine the socio-economic and human rights impacts of the economic land concession (ELC) for a sugar plantation on farmers in Trapaing Cho community in Oral districts, Kampong Speu province.

Duties
  • Research on Impacts of Pesticide Usage
  • Specific Objectives:
  • To calculate the level of understanding of farmers and locals on the negative impacts of pesticides over their physical health conditions.
  • To identify the key reasons why those small-scale farmers remains, using pesticide on their land plantation; though, they have known the side effects of its either long-terms or short-terms to hit their health and well-being.
  • To document with quantitative and qualitative research of the negative impacts of pesticide in relation to insecticides and herbicides, which farmers regularly apply on their farming field, led to weaken on their nervous and immune systems, particularly women, elderly and minors as well.
  • The Expected Results of Project are below:
  • Output: Research in terms of pesticides and chemical substance, finished with fruitful result definitely.
  • Outcome: Determined the health and livelihood impacts from the pesticide and herbicide on farmers and locals who are living in Romeas Hek and Svay Chrom districts, Svay Rieng province in order to build awareness raising and for further advocacy work. So that, their capacity and knowledge on how to avoid those polluted sustained, either increased or secured.

  • To examine the process of granting ELCs to private company in Oral district.
  • To document the socio-economic impact of the ELC on farmers’ access to land and resources
  • To describe human rights violations related to land issues in the sugar plantation of the ELC.
Requirements
  • Experience in conducting participatory research on the similar fields.
  • Have an excellence English and Khmer language both speaking and writing
  • Responsible to behave honesty and ethically in the course of their research
  • Willing to work independently and accountability with innovation skills
  • Having a good communication and collaboration with CCFC teams and its local community groups
