Translator-Interpreter
Position Circumstances

Contract/Level: Individual Consultant (IC)
Duration: 12 months, renewable upon satisfactory performance
Duty station: Phnom Penh based, with travel to Province for project events and field missions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Written translation: Translate project documents between English and Khmer, including concept note, slide presentations, correspondence, donor documents and other documents as required. Maintain accuracy, consistency, and the intended technical meaning in both directions.
- Quality control on translated documents such as training materials, M&E tools, reports, contracts and agreements, etc. Proofread and quality-check Khmer and English materials produced by the project and its partners for accuracy, clarity and consistent terminology.
- Sight translation: Provide on-the-spot sight translation of documents during meetings and field activities as needed.
- Terminology management: Build and maintain a bilingual English Khmer glossary covering agriculture, climate adaptation, value chains, GCF and FAO terminology, safeguards, and project-specific terms. Keep it current and share it across the team for consistent usage.
- Event and field support: Support the logistics and flow of bilingual events, brief speakers and facilitators on interpretation arrangements, and provide real-time language support to participants during field missions.
- Consecutive interpretation: Provide consecutive interpretation at project meetings, partner and government meetings, farmer organization meetings, field visits and training events, in Phnom Penh and the four target provinces
- Others: Carry out related language and communication tasks requested by the supervisor in support of project delivery.
- Confidentiality: Handle all project information, contracts and correspondence with strict confidentiality. Some material is commercially or institutionally sensitive
Expected Profile of Candidates
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in translation, interpretation, linguistics, English, or a related field
- Master's Degree is preferred
Work History:
- Professional translation and interpretation experience between English and Khmer. Demonstrated experience in interpretation at conferences or meetings. Experience in agriculture, climate change adaptation, climate resilience, rural development, or related for 5 years is preferred
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
- Strong written translation skills in both directions.
- Proven consecutive and simultaneous interpretation ability.
- A good command of computer tools, including MS Office; familiarity with computer-assisted translation tools is an advantage.
Soft Skills
- Attention to detail, reliability under deadline, and discretion with sensitive information.
