In 2014, Smiling Gecko Cambodia (SGC) was officially registered as a local NGO in Cambodia. SGC is legally independent of Smiling Gecko Switzerland. Following its mission of “Cambodians helping Cambodians” the organization, focuses on fighting the causes of poverty and helping people to help themselves. To this end, SGC launched a project on a previously acquired site to the North of Phnom Penh whose objective is to provide several thousand Cambodians with future job training and a regular income in the sectors of education, agriculture, tourism, industry and trade.

Education is the linchpin for the development of any society. Providing schooling for children is therefore of paramount importance to the cluster project of Smiling Gecko. The local village school was renovated in 2015. In November 2017, SGC/HISF Education Campus opened a separate primary school and a kindergarten. The Smiling Gecko School is to be extended over the coming years to include a high school. We are about to establish an education center for around 1100 students that serves as a model for the school system in Cambodia.

Currently Smiling Gecko Cambodia, SGC-HISF Education Campus (SHEC) which is under the wing of the Village School Project is seeking qualified, talented, caring, student centered candidates to fill in the following vacancy positions as below:

Announcement Positions

Teaching Assistant (4 Positions)

Position Summary

Location : Cluster Project Site.

Report to : Primary School Principal

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Support the teachers in providing and effective learning environment
  • Support an individual student/a group of students competently with minimal guidance from the teacher
  • Be able to cover the teachers for short period as necessary
  • Assist the teachers to guide the students through encouragement/questioning/prompting to do their tasks without telling the answers or doing the tasks for them
  • Be able to question or explain to students at an appropriate language level so they understand
  • Assist the teachers with student learning and organization
  • Responsible for the administrative work of a Teaching Assistant
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education in English, TEFL, TESOL or equivalent
  • Cambodian National, female
  • Like working with children
  • Read, Write, speak English
  • At least 1 year working experience
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Social competency and flexibility
  • Able to work in teams
  • Enjoy working in an intercultural context
 
 

Khmer Teacher for Primary Level (4 Positions)

Position Summary

Location : Cluster Project Site

Accountable to : School Principal

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Teaching in Khmer applying Cambodian National Curriculum from Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Cambodia in accordance with the given framework and philosophies of the school
  • Plan for teaching pupils, materials and learning environments within discrete subjects.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of teaching resources and effective classroom management
  • Actively participate parent-teacher conferences and other school events as required
  • Active participation in internal school continuing education with strong commitment to personal and professional growth
  • Further development of the school in the cooperation school director, school leadership, teachers and all staff
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in either Social Science, Science and/or equivalent
  • Completed training as a Khmer Primary Teacher and/or Certificate of Pedagogy
  • Able to communicate in English
  • At least 1 year working experience
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Social competence and flexibility
  • Able to work in the team
  • Enjoy working in an intercultural context
 
 

Native Expat Teacher (4 Positions)

Position Summary

Location: Cluster Project Site

Accountable to: School Principal

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Maintain a classroom conducive to learning, manage classroom
  • Recognize challenging student behaviour and resolve successfully
  • Develop lesson plans
  • Support student learning
  • Differentiate instruction
  • Establish and enforce a set of rules for the classroom
  • Prepare students for standardized tests
  • Keep parents updated on their child's progress
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in education
  • Teaching certification
  • Native English speaker
  • 2 years or more successful teaching experience at the elementary level
  • Love for children
