Position Summary

The Swimming Coach and Lifeguard assists in facilitating the operation of the Koh Pich and Bassac Garden swimming pool. They also assist the Lead Swimming Coach, Aquatics Supervisor and the Physical Education (PE) teachers in delivering swimming classes offered as part of the PE and competitive swimming programs at CIS. They will also perform lifeguard duties during the school day and at swimming meets.

Child Safeguarding

CIS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be required to fulfill their role in promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all students in the school by:

  • Undertaking regular professional development on child protection and safeguarding
  • Signing a Staff Code of Conduct
  • Reporting to the Designated Safeguarding Lead any concerns they have for the welfare of a student

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Teaching and coaching
  • Maintain an up-to-date register of all swimmers attending each session
  • Teach classes delivered as part of the daytime PE/Swimming Program; support students of all ages and varying ability levels to build technical swimming skills, an understanding of water safety, and confidence in the water
  • Provide coaching during training sessions in the competitive swimming program
  • Develop year plans and daily plans
  • Conduct assessment of students on the competitive swim team and provide feedback to students and parents
  • Teach and coach according to the learning objectives established for each swimming class/session
  • Ensure pool users understand and follow pool rules
  • Health and safety
  • Perform lifeguard duties, and ensure standard operating procedures and the emergency action plan are adhered to
  • Conduct routine risk assessment and safety inspections of the swimming facilities including the pool areas, equipment and water to be sure it is safe to use; report maintenance issues to the Director of Athletics and Student Activities
  • Document any incidents and/or injuries by completing the Accident Form in collaboration with the Head School Nurse and reporting the incidents to the Director of Athletics and Student Activities
  • Pool maintenance
  • Carry out opening and closing procedures appropriately when the Head Swimming Coach is away
  • Handle set-ups and take-downs, and safely store equipment according to a pre-arranged schedule in a timely and cooperative manner when the Head Swimming Coach is away
  • Swimming competitions
  • Using Hy-Tek Team Manager and Meet Manager, track all swim meet entries and results for all CIS swimmers. Using the same software plan the CIS hosted swim meets
Expected Profile of Candidates
Languages:
  • English - Fluent
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR certification
  • Experience coaching young people in swimming techniques and water safety, ideally in an international school environment or in diverse communities of learners
  • Experience working in an international context or with a diverse community of learners
  • Demonstrated swimming proficiency
  • Has knowledge of swimming strokes/techniques, First Aid and lifesaving techniques, and age-appropriate coaching techniques
  • Proficient in English for the purpose of engaging with pool users in the case of emergency, relaying coaching instructions, and contributing to team meetings conducted in English
Soft Skills
  • Able to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time, and able to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety
  • Able to enforce pool policies while providing a high level of customer service to students, faculty/staff, and community members
  • Proficient in English for the purpose of engaging with pool users in the case of emergency, relaying coaching instructions, and contributing to team meetings conducted in English
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrates cultural competence and enjoys learning about new cultures
