Announcement Description

The National Centre for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control (CNM) has been implementing a comprehensive malaria program since 2004, funded by grants from the Global Fund for HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria (GFATM). The UNOPS received funding from the Global Fund to collaborate closely with CNM in the fight against malaria as the Principal Recipient of the RAI4E Malaria Grant. CNM has been designated as the Principal Implementing Partner (PIP) for the program aimed at eliminating Artemisinin-Resistant Plasmodium Falciparum Parasite and moving towards the elimination of malaria of all species in Cambodia. CNM collaborates with UNOPS and partners to enhance malaria elimination operations at provincial and district levels, reducing malaria-related morbidity and mortality in the country.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Chief of VMW Unit/Technical Bureau Chief, the Surveillance officer will be responsible for the following duties:

Surveillance Officer

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Assist senior VMW officer in organize training and supervision on Malaria surveillance to sub-national level.
  • Assist Senior VMW officer in the collaboration, assessment, verification, standardization and analysis of data relative to selected aspects of malaria surveillance.
  • Conduct filed investigations to verify and validate surveillance data quality
  • Track and monitor trends and undertake comparative analysis of surveillance data.
  • Follow up on investigation reports received from the field, as required.
  • Participates in outbreak of malaria or increased occurrences of malaria.
  • Prepares routine reports on select aspects of surveillance.
  • Assist in the preparation of protocols, procedure, manuals, guideline and other documents relative to epidemiological surveillance.
  • Assist to Develop the all-training materials and job aid for supportive supervision to the surveillance activities.
  • Liaise with OD, Provincial Health Department staff and partner agencies for malaria surveillance.
  • Ensure prompt reporting from OD/Provincial to Central level and assist the chief of unit in the preparation of quarterly, annual and interim progress reports.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor, such as surveillance activities, surveys, census, and participation in conferences, workshops, training, and meetings.

Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Experience and qualifications
  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience or bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
  • Significant experience working in the health care sector and government.
  • Specific Skills and Knowledge
  • Good command of English and Khmer and a high level of verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong facilitation, training, presentation, and teamwork skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of malaria field operations
  • Good computer skills (word processing and spreadsheet) Physically fit and happy to spend extended periods away from home, sometimes living in difficult conditions.
  • Confident and self-motivated
