Schedule
Monday to Friday, with daily working hours 30 minutes shorter than other teaching staff (except whole team meeting day). This banks approximately 2 additional hours per week which contribute toward the monthly Saturday teacher training day (8 hours: 8.00am to 12.00pm and 1.00pm to 5.00pm). This brings the total to 40 hours per week consistently across the month.
Role Overview
The Substitute Teacher & Curriculum Developer supports the Education Department through flexible classroom teaching and curriculum development responsibilities. The role is responsible for delivering high-quality lessons during teacher absences while also designing, reviewing, and improving lesson plans, resources, pacing guides, and educational materials aligned with REACH's educational framework.
Approximately 30% of working time will be spent on substitute teaching, which is reactive and varies month to month based on teaching staff availability. Curriculum development & piloting work makes up the remaining 70% and flexes around teaching needs. To protect curriculum development output, dedicated curriculum development mornings each week are reserved as protected curriculum time, with substitute teaching cover not requested on these mornings except in emergencies.
The role requires strong teaching practice, creativity, organization, strong written English, and the ability to support both students and teaching staff in maintaining engaging and effective learning environments.
- Substitute Teaching (approximately 30% of time)
- Deliver engaging and structured lessons based on REACH's educational framework.
- Substitute teaching across different age groups and subjects when required.
- Adapt lesson plans and teaching strategies to suit the learning level and different needs of students.
- Maintain positive classroom management and foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Record student attendance and monitor classroom participation and behaviors.
- Communicate student progress, concerns, or behavioral issues to the homeroom teacher or senior education team.
- Support students' emotional wellbeing and encourage positive behavior.
- Work collaboratively with volunteers, interns, and classroom assistants assigned to the classroom.
- Promote ethical behavior and model positive attitudes and professionalism.
- Assist with breaktime supervision and student wellbeing activities when required.
- Curriculum Development (approximately 70% of time)
- Create and develop effective lesson plans, pacing guides, worksheets, assessments, and classroom activities based on REACH's curriculum framework and curriculum projects.
- Design engaging and creative learning materials and resources that support student participation and active learning.
- Review and improve existing curriculum materials to ensure quality and consistency across classes.
- Create resource lists and recommend educational materials for classroom use.
- Support the development of project-based learning, workshops, and enrichment activities.
- Conduct classroom observations to evaluate curriculum effectiveness and student engagement.
- Collaborate with teachers and the senior education team to identify areas for curriculum improvement.
- Support assessment creation, grading systems, and student evaluation tools.
- Assist in teacher training and workshops related to lesson planning, classroom strategies, and curriculum implementation.
- Ensure curriculum materials align with REACH's mission, values, and student learning goals.
- Collaborate with other REACH education departments when necessary to support organisational goals.
- Curriculum Development Hub & Training
- Participate in weekly Curriculum Development hub sessions, working alongside other curriculum developers under the guidance of the Program Development & Placement Manager.
- Complete REACH’s internal Curriculum Development training, including pedagogy fundamentals and AI-assisted curriculum tools.
- Support the digitalization of curriculum materials by uploading, organising, and maintaining lesson content, resources, and assessments on REACH’s internal learning platform, ensuring materials are clearly structured, up to date, and accessible to teachers and learners.
- Apply Claude and other AI tools to curriculum work as part of REACH's integrated approach to curriculum development.
- Participate in internal meetings, workshops, and ongoing professional development training.
- Conduct yourself professionally inside and outside the workplace while promoting REACH's values and mission.

- At least of teaching experience at REACH for 1 year
- Demonstrated strong use of lesson plans and effective lesson delivery to students.
- Currently studying or completing a bachelor's degree in TESOL or TESL.
- Strong written English, including the ability to draft and refine curriculum materials.
- Good knowledge and experience teaching different student levels and working with children.
- Willingness to learn and use Claude and other AI tools as part of curriculum development work.
- Flexible and adaptable to different work environments and school needs.

English Teacher

Contracted Hours: 40 hours per week
Weekday Schedule: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week (7:30 am – 11:00 am and 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm)
Weekend Schedule: 1 Saturday per month, 8 hours (8:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm)
Twice a year, end-of-semester parent-teacher interviews occur; as a result, some weekend work is necessary throughout the year.
Probation Period: 3-month probationary contract, followed by a performance review
Contract Length: If the applicant has a good performance review, a 1-year contract will be offered.
- Teaching & Lesson Planning
- Adapt lesson plans from REACH's educational framework as necessary to suit the needs of your class.
- Ensure lesson plans include activities and engaging games to encourage classroom participation and foster a creative learning culture.
- Prepare daily class materials and resources in advance, in line with the lesson plan for that day.
- Preparation and review of lesson plans as required to meet the needs of the Education department.
- Teach students English as well as additional subjects including Art, Physical Education, Garden, and Ethics.
- Student Support & Assessment
- Record daily student attendance in line with internal organisational processes.
- Support and observe individual student learning behaviour both inside the classroom and during other activities undertaken whilst at school.
- Where necessary, make referrals to the Head Teacher or Department Manager when there are concerns or issues regarding individual students.
- Motivate and encourage students to be involved and engaged with all school activities.
- Promote ethical behaviour amongst all students, always leading by example.
- Prepare student report cards every semester.
- Host parent-teacher meetings at the end of every semester to review student performance and behaviour.
- Professional & Collaborative Responsibilities
- Undergo ongoing training workshops hosted internally and externally by other organisations.
- Work alongside any foreign/local volunteers assigned to Classroom Assistant duties.
- Conduct yourself in a manner both inside and outside of the workplace that promotes the values and ethos of REACH.
- Assist other REACH colleagues where collaboration is necessary to achieve inter-departmental goals.
- A 3-month probationary period, followed by a 1-year contract.
