Position Summary

Working hours: 40 hours / week

Location: Kampong Cham Province and other provinces around Kampong Cham.

Purposes:

In East Areas of Cambodia, Enfants du Mékong is managing sponsorship programs to support poor children to be able to go to school.

In this context the social worker in these areas is supposed to help international volunteers (bamboo) to follow up the godchildren and their families, to advise them for their studies and their vocational and university choices. This role is being a bridge between international volunteers and program managers to facilitate, coordinate, translate, and build relationships.

This job should be performed in accordance with the rules and the values of Enfants du Mékong: the goal is not only to help good students to go to school and to pursue their studies as far as possible according to their abilities but also become responsible men and women contributing to the future of their families and their country.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Social Work, Sponsorship Program
  • Assists international volunteers to manage all sponsorship programs implemented by Program Managers (RP) in the east area.
  • Helps international volunteers to ensure a social follow up of families by visiting at minimum one time per year (more times if required). During the visit, discuss about following topics: health, hygiene, harvest & food, work in the fields, debt, schooling and education.
  • Assists international volunteers to ensure academics follow up of the student at their schools with Program Managers (RP) by collecting attendance, conducting small internal exams, and checking notebooks etc.
  • Supports international volunteers to manage the ‘recruitment’ of new godchildren: collect and verify all necessary information, organize exams in villages etc.
  • Facilitates and maintain good relationship with teachers, local authorities, and volunteers.
  • Learns about the environment of each program in order to ensure the sustainability of the support provided by Enfants du Mékong.
  • Work with international volunteers to check and monitor monthly sponsorship distributions prepared by RPs.
  • Works with international volunteer to train and encourage RPs to conduct educational activities before distribution.
  • Being a translator and interpreter for international volunteers if needed.
  • Other tasks assigned by international volunteers and management team.
  • Correspondence Management
  • Every three months, collects letters from godchildren for their godparents. Before sending it to Phnom Penh (for translation), read, check and correct the content. During the distribution, give them letters sent by godparents
  • Collects and updates information in « Courrier d’Asie » and « Salesforce »
  • Holistic Education Work – DREAM Vision of EDM
  • Academic Follow up
  • Assists international volunteers to ensure academics follow up of the student at their schools with Program Managers (RP) by collecting attendance, conducting small internal exams, and checking notebooks etc.
  • Human Training and self-development activities
  • Works with international volunteer to train and encourage RPs to conduct educational activities before distribution.
  • To be a point of contact and support of French Volunteers or Other EDM Colleagues for the holistic and integral education of young people, with partners who could contribute to their human training or personal development (Karol & Setha).
  • Orientation/Forum, Exams, and consultation Meeting
  • Assists international volunteers to prepare orientation and forum, seminars, trainings, meetings, and EdM’s events in Est areas.
  • Collects booklets from the various schools and vocational training centers to provide it to the students
  • Performs an educational and personal follow-up of the godchildren studying from grade 9 to grade 12 to advise them about the studies and jobs they can pursue in the future.
  • Works with RPs and International volunteer to speak to godchildren’s families about the several vocational trainings and schools, about different kind of jobs, and success stories of previously sponsored students.
  • Budget Management
  • These budgetary aspects, like everything else, must be handled in close collaboration with the French volunteer in charge of the same area.
  • Prepares monthly budget request for mission and expenses in east area.
  • Collects receipts and reference for settlement before 25th of each month.
  • Checks and monitor expense and distribution report of sponsorship from RP timely and effectively by asking RPs to send to accountant at the end of the month through Telegram Group.
  • Sends hard-copy of distribution reports and other relevant documents to Head office regularly.

Expected Profile of Candidates
Languages:
  • English - Good
  • French is preferred
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Study, English, Management, Law, Psychology, etc.
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Be able to ride motorbike for long distance
  • Be able to travel often to target provinces.
  • Experience in community or charity work is a plus
  • Good spoken and written English. French is a plus
  • Good knowledge about computer (Word, Excel, PPT)
Soft Skills
  • Excellent capacity of organization and adaptation,
  • Be able to manage “multitasks”, be flexible and rigorous
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to deal with social and childhood problem
