The Women's Media Centre of Cambodia (WMC) established as a non-profit, non-governmental organization in January 1995 and officially registered with the Council of Ministers in the same year. Since its foundation, WMC has produced innovative high-quality radio, television and video productions in order to educate and inform Cambodians on a wide range of issues impacting on women’s rights and human rights, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, trafficking, elections, domestic violence, leadership, sexual assaults, drug abuse, rule of law, decentralization, poverty, Civil Society Dialogue and Public Awareness Raising, rape, land dispute/conflicts, etc.

WMC is independent and non-partisan. As a Cambodia Women’s Media Organization, it dedicated to improving the status of women in Cambodia and “Making Gender Equality Possible in Cambodia” (vision). Its mission is:

  • To use the media services to educate, lobby and increase awareness of women’s rights in Cambodian society;
  • To use the media services to empower women by providing evident-based information on socio-economic issues impacting their lives, and by giving them a voice on these issues;
  • To advocate for the positive portrayal of women in the public media, and to encourage and support women in media profession.

Position Summary

Contract type: 1-year contract with the possibility of extension.

Report to: Radio Production Supervisor

The radio and social media content writer is responsible for producing radio content, including scripts for donor or partner projects and entertainment programs, as well as editing programs for rebroadcast and designing posters, video recording and editing.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Develop and write scripts for radio programs, interviews, discussions, dramas, podcasts, videos, and digital content.
  • Ensure content follows organizational editorial standards, values, and relevant policies.
  • Take part in brainstorming session to ascertain the program’s theme, structure, and tone with an eye on high-caliber radio production, covering both material and production methods.
  • Participate in writing articles and producing radio programs such as call-in show, round table show, radio drama, mini feature, personal profile, interview, Vox-pop, promotional spot, announcement etc.;
  • By assignment, take part in the creation of marketing, special, and entertainment programs.
  • Sound editing and installing radio programs.
  • Contact the guest speakers and arrange the broadcast in the order of each group program.
  • Establish group gatherings to discuss difficulties and solutions.
  • Take a minute to report on the meeting and monitor the activities
Expected Profile of Candidates
Languages:
  • Khmer - Good
  • English - Basic
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Khmer Literature, Social Sciences or related field
Work History:
  • Script writing and media production for 2 years as a minimum
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Working experience in gender regarded as a plus.
  • Good command skills in Khmer and basic English.
  • Pleasant, clear speaking voice with the ability to perform as an MC (Master of Ceremonies) is an advantage
  • Design skills (e.g., graphic design or poster design) are an advantage.
Soft Skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
