Job Summary

The School Principal is responsible for the overall leadership and management of Hermann Gmeiner School (HGS) Phnom Penh/Siem Reap, ensuring the effective delivery of quality education, administration and safeguarding in accordance with national standards and SOS Children’s Villages Cambodia policies.

This role oversees the educational, administrative/operations, and safeguarding of a primary (for Siem Reap only), secondary or high school and Kindergarten. The Principal is responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of school programs to ensure alignment with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) standards, as well as internal organizational requirements. The Principal builds and maintains relationships with co-workers, students, parents, community, and relevant government institutions to support the overall success of the school.

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and management of all educational and administrative/operation activities within the Hermann Gmeiner School.
  • Supervise key functional units, including pedagogy, curriculum development, centralized records, procurement, administration, finance, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the organization management to align the school’s strategic direction with organization policies and government regulations.
  • Develop and manage the school’s annual plan and budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and preparation of accurate and on-time narrative and financial reports.
  • Oversee recruitment, assignment, training, and supervision of teachers and key co-workers.
  • In collaboration with HROD Team to conduct capacity assessment of co-workers and teachers and develop and implement the annual capacity development plan.
  • Engage with communities, parents, and public/private stakeholders to understand educational needs and promote Hermann Gmeiner School programs.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the Provincial Department of Education (PDoE) and other educational authorities.
  • Monitor staff performance, conduct regular evaluations, and support professional development.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness, resolve staff grievances, and ensure compliance with MoEYS laws/policies and organizational policies.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive school environment by regularly monitoring campus safety and security.
  • Perform additional assignments as requested by Line Manager and the National Director to support the mission of the organization.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Qualifications, Experience and Skills
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree in pedagogy is compulsory (at least level secondary teacher)
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or business administration is preferred.
  • Understanding relevance laws/policies/guidelines/strategies of MoEYS is preferred.
  • At least 1-year experience as a school principal, or at least 2-year experience as a school deputy principle.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage plan and budget, lead team, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to conduct monitoring, inspection, and​assessment the performance of co-workers and teachers.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Khmer.
  • Good computer skills (Ms. Word, Ms. Excel, Email, etc).
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, solve problems, prioritize tasks, and manage competing deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across stakeholders.
