Introduction

Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) has designed a study entitled: Saving Babies Lives (SBL). It aims to improve quality of neonatal care.

The SBL Officer role is vital to achieve this. They must be a nurse or a midwife, preferably with 3 years paediatric or neonatal clinical experience. The SBL Officer works with VHSGs, and government healthcare workers in health centres, health posts and hospitals. The SBL Officer plans, coordinates and implements SBL activities including teaching, mentoring, and facilitating, interviewing, data collecting.

SBL Officers have a unique opportunity to participate in an exciting programme that will save many neonatal lives, and at the same time, the Officer can learn many skills to develop themselves professionally.

AHC has zero-tolerance to Child Abuse, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) and Sexual Harassment (SH).

Duties
  • Develop his/her own individual plan for any given task within the SBLP that is consistent with the strategic plan and AOP of SBLP under the guidance of the Team Leaders and the SBL Program Lead.
  • Act as a facilitator and mentor for the SBL training and coaching
  • Lead the Baby Health Meeting with VHSG
  • Discuss sensitive topics such as death of a child with caretaker
  • Attend Induction Training/Training of Trainer in order build up competencies prior to providing SBL training to healthcare workers.
  • Establish a good working relationship with the SBLP team and actively participate in SBL meetings.
  • Establish a good working relationship with the government health care workers across all levels and the PHD/OD staff and actively participate in PHD/OD meetings.
  • Communicate with the relevant staff within both SBL and the government health care workers in order to conduct the SBLP activities such as teaching, mentoring and arranging meetings.
  • Carry out the KAPES assessment (Knowledge, Attitudes, Practice, Equipment, Staff) at the HC, HP and Referral Hospital per plan.
  • Provide teaching, coaching and mentoring to the staff at the hospital, health centres and health posts.
  • Conduct and join the meetings with government health care workers.
Requirements
  • Bachelor or Associate Degree in Nursing from an institution recognised by Ministry of Education Youths and Sport and the Ministry of Health, Cambodia.
  • Nursing Experience: at least 2 years’ experiences in nursing within AHC or a clinical setting outside of AHC.
  • AHC Team leader level is preferable.
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Able to communicate effectively with all members of community
  • Comfortable in a rural environment and working in villages.
  • Good organisation, time keeping, and problem solving skills
  • Willing to travel and back and forth to Preah Vihear, and to health centers/health posts in within Preah Vihear province.

General description

School Health Education Program Officer works closely with the principal, teachers, health center staff, and other relevant government and NGOs, to improve and promote health care and clinical decision-making based on outcomes, process performance, and evidence-based guidelines.

AHC has zero-tolerance to Child Abuse, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) and Sexual Harassment (SH).

Duties
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures of the hospital (AHC) and schools.
  • Teachings, coaching, and training as following training: First-aid (provider and instructor course), Basic Health Care, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Basic eye education to primary school students, Basic dental education to teachers and students
  • Facilitating/coordinating such activities and training: Dental treatment/education and Basic Eye Care to primary school teachers
  • Works closely with teachers to identify student’s health problems such as dental, eye, nutrition conditions, and general health
  • Liaises with local health government staff
  • Assists in the design of health education materials for school such as posters, flipcharts…
  • Works closely with school teachers to make sure soap is always available for hand washing
  • Assists in regular monitoring of students’ behavior regarding hand hygiene and tooth brushing and fluoride weekly mouth rinse
  • Performs other administrative functions such as reporting
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in Nursing is essential
  • The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Ministry of Health (MoH), Kingdom of Cambodia
  • Three years’ work experience in nursing within AHC or clinical setting outside of AHC
  • Experiences in teaching is preferable
  • Nursing License registered with nursing council
  • Seminars, workshops, and training related to policies and guidelines for school health.
  • Basic Computer skills (Words, Excel, Outlook, and Unicode)
  • Strong communication, listening, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • English would be an advantage
  • Ability to learn and adopt new technical skills

  • Facilitating/coordinating such activities and training: Dental treatment/education and Basic Eye Care to primary school teachers
