For over 45-years, WorldFish's data, evidence, and insights have shaped practices, policies and investments to end hunger and advance sustainable development in low- and middle-income countries. We have a global presence across 20 countries in Asia, Africa, and the Pacific, with 460 staff of 30 nationalities deployed where the most significant sustainable development challenges can be addressed through holistic aquatic food systems solutions. Embedded in local, national, and international partnerships, our work sets agendas, builds capacities, and supports decision-making for climate action, food and nutrition security, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, blue economy, OneHealth, and AgriTech, integrating gender, youth, and social inclusion.

Research Specialist is responsible for coordinating or taking lead on, as appropriate, the implementation of various CRP and bilateral projects as assigned. This position also provide senior administrative and managerial support to the project leader, and be responsible for the overall coordination of field interventions, including planning, budgeting, partner relations, and external communication. The position will also provides substantive technical inputs, facilitation, and research support to various other WorldFish projects, and especially integrating participatory action research (PAR) methods and tools in planning, implementation, and M&E and documentation of project outcomes and impacts.

Time frame and location

This position will be based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia with travelling to other sites as required.

The successful candidate should be available to commence ASAP for an initial one year fixed term contract, with possibility of extension depending on performance and funding situation. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package commensurate with the job level.

Duties
  • Assist in or initiate new project development and in preparing project work plan, budget, partner contracts, and monitoring and reporting of the progress and expenditure.
  • Lead/ co-lead the implementation of project(s) and assess project performance and procedures
  • Supervise the project activities implemented by local partner organizations, ensuring the activities are being completed according to work plan and financial management and reporting meet the expected standards.
  • Provide professional advice on WorldFish business program areas and technical guidance / support to various WorldFish projects regarding his areas of expertise,
  • Coordinate and liaise with government officials, local authorities, NGOs, and the private sector on all matters pertaining to the administration and implementation of the assigned project activities.
  • Coordinate communications among stakeholders and facilitate smooth partner relations regarding the management and operations of projects.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building of a variety of local stakeholders for fisheries and aquaculture research and development, through organizing workshops, training, consultation meetings, and field study tours.
  • Support Project Leaders and other team members to ensure timely tracking and documentation of project progress and achievements for donor reporting and external communication.
  • Contribute to publishing results in peer-reviewed scientific journals, policy magazines and popular media, with guidance from more senior research colleagues.

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience with project administration and management support.
  • Highly skilled in participatory methods and approaches used in sociological research.
  • Excellent computer skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • High proficiency in written and spoken English. Excellent verbal communication and writing skills in Khmer language.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and take initiatives.
  • Readiness to travel to support field research activities.
