Announcement Positions

Announcement Description

We are a leading conservation organisation saving wetlands for wildlife and people across the world. Founded in 1946, WWT’s mission is to conserve, restore and create wetlands, save wetland wildlife, and inspire everyone to value the amazing things healthy wetlands achieve for people and nature. We work with global partners, local people, governments and businesses to take direct action to save wetlands and their wildlife.

Cambodia Programme

Wetlands cover 30% of Cambodia’s total land area, and 80% of all people in the country depend on wetlands for their livelihoods. This biodiversity hotspot is going through a period of rapid development. The benefits of this development are however consistently skewed away from the poorest and most vulnerable communities, and the ecological integrity of the landscape is rarely considered. It is vital wetlands are factored into decision-making at all levels, and that mechanisms are in place to empower communities to sustainably manage their natural resources whilst providing much needed sanctuary for the region’s increasingly threatened biodiversity.

Under Cambodia Lower Mekong Delta Conservation (CLMDC) Partnership WWT’s Cambodia Programme works with its partners Birdlife Cambodia and NatureLife Cambodia at local and national levels to deliver conservation action and provide resources to stakeholders working in and around wetlands. Our work includes site protection, wetland assessments, community-based management, sustainable livelihoods, and national-level wetland guidance and capacity building. At present WWT’s field work is focused on Anlung Pring Wetland in Kampot Province as well as Boeung Prek Lapouv Wetland in Takeo Province.
WWT is planning to establish a wetland research component to contribute in the development of a deeper wetland knowledge for Cambodia. The Research Officer will be the key lead of this component and will be responsible to plan, lead, coordinate, supervise and communicate all research-related activities of WWT Cambodia.
