BBC Media Action’s Research Group conducts  in order  understand our audiences  impact  our programmes.  BBC Media Action has  integrated team  up  100 specialist qualitative  quantitative researchers  both  the UK  our country offices. This team provides  and  to  the development  impact assessment  media development  and communication  development projects. We undertake  at audience, practitioner, organisation  system levels, including:

  • Formative  to guide  development  projects, including literature reviews, qualitative  quantitative primary research.
  • Pre-testing/piloting  media outputs  audiences,  feed into programme development.
  • Monitoring  progress including audience reactions.
  • Evaluation  the impact  our projects.
  • Research  learning about what works  media development  communication  development.

The Research  is  for  delivery  all  activities conducted  inform  strategy, content  quality  to evaluate  impact  BBC Media Action's media development  development communications  in Cambodia. She/he  responsible  leading  managing  team  research staff  ensuring  research  technically well designed, resourced, implemented, reported  disseminated  a range  audiences. The  includes line management  research officers  research assistants  building  research  project management skills. This  includes responsibility  all  project delivery including agency recruitment,  instrument  and piloting, qualitative  quantitative fieldwork, analysis  interpretation. She/he  responsible  supporting staff  deliver quality analysis  interpretation, ensuring that  research  useful  used by BBC Media Action production  creative teams. The Research  will  collaboratively  London  Research staff,  consultants  agencies  the  team  lead  design, co-ordination  implementation  a variety  qualitative  possibly quantitative  activities which  inform, guide  evaluate  activities through key audience  media insights.

The  is  in Phnom Penh  will involve regular travel within Cambodia. Some international travel may  required.

Duties

  • Manage  research delivered by  BBC Media Action  research team.
  • Deliver  assure quality  research,  inform media production, outreach  capacity building  and  deliver evaluative  to  donor requirements.
  • Lead  oversee  development  research plans, instruments  sampling design, commissioning  agencies  quantitative research, qualitative  quantitative analysis  interpretation, reporting  dissemination  research findings  time,  budget  to  quality.
  • Ensure AIM (BBC Media Action’s internal quality assurance process  research)  being used  every steps  the  process.
  • Plan  monitor resource needs, including creation  input into Gantt charts  research,  and programme plans,  maintain  update delivery dash board  projects.
  • Manage overall budget  research projects, have oversight  research  and ensure  research  planned  delivered  time  within  forecasted budget.
  • Support  develop  research team, including coaching, mentoring and/or training  develop  research  project management skills.
  • Liaise  colleagues  the London Research team  ensure  is delivered  line  organizational standards  requirements.
  • Undertake quantitative and/or qualitative  analysis, ensuring that  interpretation supports development  media products  is thematically appropriate.
  • Engage proactively  collaboratively  non-research staff  the office, including  Country Director  creative, production,  and finance teams  support  development  use  research  the production  BBC Media Action’s creative outputs.
  • Prepare  deliver internal  presentations  reports  inform  creative process,  and evaluate  effectiveness,  contribute  project strategy. Synthesize insights  research findings  business development  overall organisation strategic development.
  • Represent  Research team  BBC Media Action  external  internal stakeholders, including disseminating our findings  investigating  funding opportunities.
  • Line management  Research Officers  Research Assistants, when employed  the team, including supporting  development, motivation  technical support.
  • Participate  a senior  in  Cambodia leadership team.

Requirements

  • Required knowledge,  and experience
    • Experience  designing  managing qualitative  quantitative  in  of practical outcomes.
    • Strong quantitative and/or qualitative  analysis using SPSS  similar software  qualitative analysis software.
    • Experience  undertaking  managing fieldwork  adapting methods  challenging  resource-constrained conditions.
    • Excellent  management skills, including planning, budget  resource management.
    • Experience  delivering  training  building  capacity.
    • Strong ability  communicate technical concepts  colleagues.
    • Experience  managing staff including technical  oversight,  development  performance management.
    • Strong presentation  and experience  adapting oral  written  outputs  present  non-technical language  diverse audiences  grassroots  senior levels, including NGO staff, non-researchers, academics  donors.
    • Excellent interpersonal  and  ability  engage appropriately  audiences, journalists, local researchers, contractors, senior  staff  donors.
    • Excellent track record  delivering  findings  time,  budget  to  high standard.
    • Ability  quality assure quantitative  qualitative analysis  reporting.
    • Fluent  written  spoken English  Khmer.
    • Good IT skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
    • Understanding  development issues  Cambodia.
  • Desirable knowledge,  and experience
    • Experience  mentoring  training others  research methods
    • Experience  with media organisations  applying  findings  production  media outputs  broadcast strategy.
    • Experience  with development organisations  apply  findings  develop health, governance, humanitarian response  resilience interventions.
