Research and Learning Associate

PURPOSE
Cambodia’s low adaptive capacity to climate change results in extreme vulnerability compared to other countries in Southeast Asia. Over 25% of the population live in environments affected by seasonal floods and high groundwater, and research has shown that in Cambodia incidence of water-borne diseases appears to increase with flooding. iDE and its local business partners will develop, adapt, and promote resilient and inclusive safely managed sanitation solutions, with a focus on reaching the most marginalized and climate vulnerable households.
The Research and Learning Associate (RLA) is responsible for direct field implementation of data collection, data verification and data reporting for iDE’s WASH in order to support program goals and objectives.
DURATION AND COMPENSATION
The initial duration for this position is one year with a high likelihood of extension based on a combination of performance, project extension, and program expansion.

BENEFITS

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The RLA reports directly to the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning and Management Information System Officer (MMO) and works closely with Senior Research and Learning Associate (SRLA) and other provincial project teams especially National Operation Manager (NOM), Sanitation Business Advisors (SBAs), District Sales Managers (DSMs), and Sale Agents (SAs). The RLA is mainly responsible for the overall data collection and cooperation with other project teams.
- Responsible
- Conduct field data collection and analysis for WASH product and On-site fecal sludge management (FSM) market assessment in Siem Reap.
- Support data collection to assess the demand and supply market for On-site FSM emptying services in rural areas of Siem Reap and identifying the most feasible existing treatment and disposal method for service emptiers to empty the untreated fecal sludge collected from on-site sanitation systems (e.g. latrine pits).
- Support data collection for On-site safe emptying and disposal FSM including assessing the volume/weight of fecal sludge collected and treated, fecal sludge samples to show the effectiveness of the result and customer satisfaction of the emptying service.

- Undertake other surveys as requested
- Double check collected data before sending and finalize to survey to system.
- Complete related forms (in paper ,TaroWorks, Kobo toolbox…) accurately, completely, and on time.

- Send all expenses and receipts to MERL and MIS Officer on a monthly basis
- Reconcile on monthly expenses and receipts with MERL and MIS Officer

- QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Graduated from university with degree in Statistics, Applied Research, or other relevant areas
- 1 to 2 years experience in field research
- Have experience in using mobile phone applications for data collection
- Experience working in WASH or safely managed sanitation in rural communities is preferred
- Understanding of basic research principles and practices
- Understanding of the research process and implementation
- Collecting, analyzing and compiling data and preparing reports
- Ability to maintain accurate and up to date records
- Experience in work planning, report writing and record keeping
