Announcement Description

Kirirom Food Production (K.F.P) Co., Ltd and the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development (DFCD) are partnering to examine the options for composting and utilising the organic waste produced by KFP’s mango processing operations. The aim is to understand the options for managing and speeding the degradation of the waste from the production of dried mangoes – peel and seed – as well as options for development into environmentally friendly and regenerative inputs for the farms in Cambodia. KFP is looking for an expert in compost management to deliver this assignment.

About the DFCD

The DFCD enables private sector investment in projects aimed at climate adaptation and mitigation in developing countries. The DFCD, managed by a consortium comprising Climate Fund Managers (CFM), World Wide Fund for Nature the Netherlands (WWF-NL), and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), and led by the Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank (FMO), offers finance and technical assistance to unlock and scale private sector investment in climate-resilient development through two stages: “origination” and “investment”.

Consultancy Objective (max 300 words):

The overall objective of this assignment is to help KFP develop a strategy for their high-quality compost investment and mango waste processing procedures. The assignment will include a comprehensive feasibility assessment of compost from mango peels and seeds, including developing of accelerated composting methods, formulating of compost-based fertiliser products.

The assessment should include:

  1. Compost technological/method analysis
  2. R&D on accelerating composting tests
  3. Composting output testing
  4. Finalising operating procedures and layout design of the compost facility

The assignment will be able to benefit from a previously conducted feedstock supply analysis of the various waste products.

Expected activities:

A detailed work plan with specific milestones and timelines will be developed by the selected consultant as part of the inception phase. We expect that a sequential approach commencing with the options assessment, then testing, before finalising the recommendations and operating procedures, will be the most suitable design of the project. The assessment of the compost production is expected to be completed within a period of 4 months from the date of contract signing, however this can be flexible based on the time proposed to complete step 2 above.
