Project Manager/Coordinator
Project name: Wonders of the Mekong project
Start Date: January 2, 2020
CONTRACT TYPE: 1-year fixed term contract with the option of renewal based on satisfactory performance.
ROLE OVERVIEW: The project manager/coordinator will play leading role in managing the Wonders of the Mekong project activities, under oversight from the University of Nevada, Reno. S/he will be responsible for coordination of most aspects of the Wonders of the Mekong project in Cambodia, including research, capacity building, and outreach activities as described in the 2017 project work plan. The project manager will help plan, initiate, and oversee execution of many project activities, working with multiple internal teams, partners, and contractors. The project manager will serve as the in-country point of contact for project team members (including scientists from Cambodia, the U.S.A., and Australia), partners (including IFReDI, National Geographic, Fishbio, and others), affiliates, volunteers, and USAID staff. S/he will be based at the Inland Fisheries Research and Development Institute in Phnom Penh and will manage a small project office within IFReDI.
- Proactively work to implement the project work plan, including reporting and monitoring and evaluation requirements.
- Ensure the overall quality of delivery, implementation, and documentation of Wonders of the Mekong activities within Cambodia.
- Report and respond to the project leads regarding project implementation.
- Maintain and improve working relationships with key project partners, especially USAID and the Cambodian government.
- Identify partnership opportunities that leverage and complement the existing Wonders of the Mekong project.
- Ensure effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the project in line with the project work plan and indicators.
- Design and coordinate field activities, literature review, report and manuscript authorship, data entry and analysis, etc.
- Help plan and oversee research activities of IFReDI staff, including activities related to endangered species, migratory fish ecology, and conservation aquaculture.
- Work with project partners to plan and execute capacity building activities, including workshops on research techniques, endangered species conservation, and multimedia story-telling.
- Work with project team members and partners to develop Wonders of the Mekong themed educational materials.
- Work with team members, project partners, and the project outreach coordinator to develop outreach products for Cambodian stakeholders, decision makers, and media.
- Help develop the Wonders of the Mekong brand and products for promotion of the project and its messages on social media.
- Minimum bachelor degree in a relevant field such as science, development, gender, education, or management or equivalent work experience.
- 5-7 years work experience with international organizations/development NGOs.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in partnership and in engagement with scientists, NGOs, and government.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and implement complex projects.
- Excellent team work and proven ability to encourage participation of all partners and stakeholders.
- Budget and financial management skills.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and spoken) in Khmer and English including report writing.
- Demonstrated flexible approach and ability to work under pressure and to organise and manage workload to meet deadlines.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Ability to work independently, maintain and manage a project office, and travel when necessary
