Kampuchea Action to Promote Education (KAPE), a local NGO based in Kampong Cham, seeks national candidates to fill the positions of Province-based Mentors in 6 provincial locations required as noted below. These positions will work in the Happy Cambodian Children Project or HCC, which has annual funding of about $1.5 million each year with an open-ended time frame of 10 to 20 years. HCC is implemented by KAPE, which is a well-established local NGO specializing in educational development with a portfolio of 21 on-going projects across Cambodia and an annual funding portfolio of about $5 million. KAPE has been chosen as the partner agency of the Kinchan Foundation, which funds HCC. HCC uses an integrated project design to support 70 state primary schools and is implemented in close cooperation with District and Provincial Offices of Education in 8 target provinces. This project is currently in its 7th year of operation and is embarking on a rapid expansion of project sites, 2024 being the first year of the expansion.

Project-Based Mentors (8 Positions)

Position Summary

Project-Based Mentors with 8 provincial locations, KAPE is a well-established local NGO with a portfolio of 20 on-going projects across Cambodia that seek to develop the capacity of schools and communities to fulfill the right of every child to have a good quality and effective education. KAPE has been chosen as the partner agency of Kinchan Stiftung Foundation to implement a project called Happy Cambodian Children (HCC). The project is being implemented in close cooperation with the district level and also Provincial of Education in the target areas. This project will be implemented over 8 years starting 2017 with eventual expansion to other provinces.

The Project-Based Mentors will be responsible for increasing the quality of student learning outcome at primary education.

The salary scale will range from 2,400,000 Riel to 2,800,00 Riel based on the previous background, and they will be full-time working.

Location: 5 positions for the Project-Based Mentor: (one position in Siem Reap), (one position in Banteay Meanchey), (one position in Tboung Khmum), (one position in Prey Veng) and (one position in Stung Treng).

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Provide pedagogical advice to teachers and contract teachers.
  • Train teachers in helping students with special learning needs to achieve proficiency in both reading (and mathematics).
  • Under the supervision of the Senior Mentor, organize a school-based mentoring program (in each school) that involves classroom observations, remote observations (using the Observic Mentoring Platform), individualized teacher conferencing, support for teacher career path planning, and archiving videos of teacher practice so that teachers can see how their practice has evolved.
  • Conduct meetings with parents and students to promote reading.
  • Visit families with students who have difficulty learning.
  • Support the Deputy Director in organizing the Community Vocational Study Tour (PLC).
  • Work with schools to mobilize resources to purchase books, teaching materials, and other work.
  • Help the school to create creative activities to promote reading, such as children helping children (i.e., peer tutoring), friends, help colleagues, study clubs, etc.
  • Organize reflections on technical work with stakeholders.
  • Make a monthly plan that outlines tech support activities focused on student proficiency in literacy and numeracy.
  • Train stakeholders on teaching techniques to teachers and relevant officials.
  • Assist in the administration of EGRA and EGMA tests as part of baseline, midline, and endline assessments.
  • Attend program-wide meetings as might be requested by the Program Manager.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Education (graduated from NIE/NGPRC is motivated)
  • 2-3 years’ experience of working in the education sector as a teaching teacher/outstanding teacher, especially NGO field
  • Ability to relate well to Government counterparts
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and mentor key stakeholders
  • Ability to travel to target schools by themselves with motorbike/other vehicles
  • Previous experience in CFS interventions in primary and pre-primary schools,
  • Ability to communicate in English are advantageous
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, e.g. Word and Excel
