GIZ is a federally owned enterprise and is supporting the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.

The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a global program working on peacebuilding and the prevention of violence. The CPS regional program Southeast Asian University Partnership for Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation (SAUP) cooperates with universities in Cambodia, Timor-Leste and Philippines developing curricula for peace and conflict studies. Partners are supported in building their capacity in curriculum design and contextualization by integrating best practices from local peacebuilding approaches. CPS SAUP closely cooperates with the Center for Conflict Studies at Philipps University in Marburg.

We are currently seeking an Advisor for Peace & Conflict Studies in Higher Education. The selected national advisor will be based at our SAUP Hub in Phnom Penh and will work in close cooperation with an international advisor on curriculum development.

Duties
  • The main duties of the position include:
  • Facilitate the establishment of university cooperations in the field of Peace & Conflict Studies in Cambodia
  • Contribute to the development of contextualized university modules in the field of Peace & Conflict studies that align with the needs and interest of the partner universities across various disciplines
  • Promote the integration of student-centered learning at partner universities through trainings and workshops
  • Establish a network with civil society actors enabling mutual exchange between theory and practice in peacebuilding
Requirements
  • Required Entry Qualifications and Competencies
  • Advanced University degree (M.A. or equivalent) in Peace & Conflict Studies or a related field (e.g. social sciences, education, public policy, development studies)
  • Specialist knowledge in conflict transformation and peacebuilding
  • Experience working in adult education, preferably in the sphere of higher education
  • Expertise in the use of student-centered teaching methods
  • Experience of practical peace work in Cambodia
  • Excellent command of Khmer and English language
  • Ability to work independently in multi-stakeholder settings, involving academia, civil society and state institutions
