Physical Education Teacher

Position Summary

Job grade: 3

Department: International Academic

Unit / Section: Primary

Work Location: SEN SOK, Phnom Penh

Working hour: Part-Time (to be confirmed based on timetable)

Job holder reports to: Principal

Job purpose:

The Part-Time PE Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality physical education to primary students in alignment with the Cambridge Primary Physical Education Curriculum. This role involves planning and teaching lessons that develop physical skills, teamwork, confidence, and an understanding of healthy lifestyles in a fun, inclusive, and safe environment. The teacher will support students’ physical and emotional development while promoting a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.

  • Problem solving: PE Teachers must creatively engage students with varied abilities, promote inclusive participation, manage equipment safely, and adapt activities for weather or facilities. They handle challenges such as motivating reluctant students, teaching large groups, and promoting sportsmanship. Collaboration, safety awareness, flexibility, and behavior management are essential.
  • Communication: PE Teachers maintain open, respectful communication with students, parents, colleagues, and school leaders. They provide clear instructions, model teamwork, and communicate student progress and conduct. They may also support schoolwide events or inter-house competitions as required by their line manager.
Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Delivery:
  • Deliver engaging PE lessons based on the Cambridge Primary PE Curriculum, developing students’ movement skills, coordination, teamwork, and understanding of fitness and health.
  • Provide inclusive opportunities for all students to participate meaningfully, regardless of ability.
  • Classroom Management:
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful learning environment during physical activities.
  • Uphold school behavior expectations and ensure the proper use of equipment and facilities.
  • Lesson Planning:
  • Prepare varied and developmentally appropriate PE activities in line with Cambridge learning objectives.
  • Incorporate warm-ups, skill development, game play, and reflection to promote physical literacy.
  • Collaboration:
  • Coordinate with class teachers and teaching assistants to reinforce cross-curricular links and support whole-child development.
  • Support house events, sports days, and other school celebrations of physical activity.
  • Professional Development:
  • Stay updated with Cambridge PE pedagogy and international best practices in physical education.
  • Participate in relevant professional development opportunities offered by the school.
  • Extracurricular Activities:
  • Support and contribute to school events, clubs, or activities that enhance the holistic development of students.
  • Safeguarding:
  • Ensure student safety in all PE settings and uphold the school’s safeguarding and child protection policy.
  • Assessment and Reporting:
  • Observe and assess students’ progress in physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Use Cambridge-aligned tools to track and report student achievements and areas for growth.
  • Parent Communication:
  • Provide updates on student participation and progress as needed, especially in cases of concern or injury.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • The employee is expected to support and perform additional duties as reasonably assigned by their line manager, provided such tasks align with their role and area of expertise.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Job Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of the Cambridge Academic Program or similar International Physical Education programs and their learning objectives
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant subject, with a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably within the Cambridge Primary Curriculum or a similar international framework.
  • Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Specific Technical Competencies:
  • Proficiency in managing large-group physical instruction
  • Familiarity with Cambridge PE planning tools and resources
  • Understanding of age-appropriate assessment in PE
  • Attitudes:
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, student-centered
  • Committed to safety, inclusion, and holistic development
  • A role model of sportsmanship and professionalism
