GIZ is a federally owned enterprise and is supporting the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.

The objective of the Improving Social Protection and Health (ISPH) Project phase II is that “the prerequisites for better access to social protection and quality assured health services in Cambodia have improved with regard to responsiveness to climate related risks, gender-responsiveness, inclusiveness and poverty reduction.”. Under output 4 of the project focuses on pre-service education (PSE) for health professionals with the specific objective that “institutional capacities for quality-assured, pre-service competency-based education (CBE) of health professionals have improved”.

ISPH II will support three health sciences training institutions namely: The Health Science Institute of Royal Cambodia Armed Forces (HSI-RCAF), Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital (KSFH), and Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital (CCFKH) on implementing the national curricula toward pre-service competency base education (CBE) for health professionals. ISPH II will also support the Ministry of Health (MoH) - Department of Human Resources and Development (HRDD) to develop the program accreditation standards for the nursing training program.

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic full-time National Intern to join the PSE team under the ISPH II project. This 6-month internship (1st February 2026 to 31st July 2026), based at the ISPH Sayon Office in Phnom Penh, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to strengthening of nursing education in Cambodia.

The intern will have the flexibility to focus on one or more of the following areas, depending on their interests and background:

  • Implementation of CBE in classroom settings (in collaboration with HSI-RCAF)
  • Implementation of CBE in clinical contexts (in partnership with KSFH and CCFKH)
  • Development of national program accreditation tools (working with MoH-HRDD)

Specific tasks will be defined and adapted in consultation with an assigned supervisor to ensure a meaningful and tailored learning experience for the intern. This internship follows a task-based learning model grounded in knowledge transfer and adult learning theory, combining real-world assignments with reflective learning, personalized goal setting, and continuous feedback.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • The main tasks (join all or some of CBE implementation in the classroom and clinical contexts and/or the development of program accreditation standards for nursing training program) will be tailored based on focus areas, including:
  • Support the ISPH-II team in preparing and delivering activities such as training and workshops related to CBE implementation at health sciences training institutions and the hospitals
  • Assist the ISPH-II team to review existing national standards nursing training program
  • Assist in translation and preparation of drafted program accreditation standard tools
  • Assist team in preparation for consultative meetings with the technical working group of the MoH about the program accreditation standard tools
  • Work closely with the team in the field testing by using the drafted tools

Expected Profile of Candidates
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Applicants who are currently in the final semester or have recently completed a bachelor’s or associate degree in nursing are especially encouraged to apply, as nursing backgrounds will be prioritized. However, candidates from other relevant health sciences fields—such as midwifery, medical laboratory, public health, or allied health—are also welcome, provided they can demonstrate how their skills and experience align with and contribute to the scope of work.
  • Strong interest in improving health professions education in Cambodia, especially in nursing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Khmer and English
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Ability to perform tasks independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to use standard MS Office software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams)
