The Better Rice Initiative Cambodia (BRIC), implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Council for Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) to promotes sustainable and climate-smart rice production in Cambodia. The project focuses on improving resource efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthening market linkages for rice value chains.

One of the key technical approaches promoted under the project is Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), a water-saving irrigation technique that helps farmers reduce water use, lower production costs, and mitigate methane emissions while maintaining yields.

To support the implementation of field activities, coordination with Agricultural Cooperatives (ACs), and monitoring of AWD demonstration farms, the project seeks to recruit a qualified intern for a period of six (6) months.

Position Summary
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Under the supervision of the Project staff, the intern will:
  • Field Support
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating farmer meetings, trainings, and demonstrations
  • Support field visits to monitor implementation of AWD and other sustainable practices
  • Coordinate with AC committees, farmers, and local authorities
  • Data Collection & Monitoring
  • Collect field data (e.g., water usage, rice performance, farmer adoption)
  • Support baseline and monitoring surveys
  • Ensure proper data entry and basic analysis
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Prepare meeting notes, field visit reports, and activity summaries
  • Support preparation of internal reports and presentations
  • Take photos and document success stories from the field
  • Coordination & Communication
  • Liaise with project partners at provincial, district, and commune level
  • Assist in logistical arrangements for field activities and workshops
Expected Profile of Candidates
Languages:
  • English - Good is preferred
  • Khmer - Good
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Rural Development, or related field as a minimum
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • At least year 3 student or recent graduate in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Rural Development, or related field.
  • Basic understanding of rice production systems (knowledge of AWD is an advantage)
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Soft Skills
  • Strong interest in sustainable agriculture and climate-smart practices
  • Good communication skills in Khmer (English is a plus)
  • Willingness to travel frequently to rural areas
