Announcement Description

The Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to contribute to global efforts on climate change. Cambodia with its high forest cover in Southeast Asia has long recognized that deforestation and forest degradation are significant sources of emissions.

Cambodia adopted its National REDD+ Strategy (NRS) 2017–2026 to guide its efforts in reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, forest conservation, sustainable forest management, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks. Since its endorsement on 08 December 2017, Cambodia has made significant progress in implementing REDD+ through the development of the National REDD+ Strategy (NRS) 2017-2026, Forest Reference Emission Level (FREL/FRL), the Safeguards Information System (SIS), the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) Framework, and REDD+ nesting guidelines. As the country moves forward with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and enhances its NDC implementation as well as in line with emerging priorities of the Carbon Crediting Secretariat and Cambodia REDD+ Taskforce Secretariat under supported by conservation international (CI) Cambodia, there is a need to review and update the National REDD+ Strategy (NRS) and its institutional arrangements to ensure alignment with the current national climate and forest policies and international frameworks.
