1 Position Purpose
The Media, Communications and Advocacy Officer will strengthen CFSWF’s public communication, engagement with local union leaders and members, and advocacy for workers’ rights.
The officer will manage social media channels, develop communication materials, maintain regular communication with local unions, and support advocacy campaigns. The role will help ensure that workers’ experiences, concerns and priorities inform CFSWF’s communication and advocacy work.

- Social Media and Content Development
- Manage CFSWF’s social media platforms and maintain a regular content calendar aligned with organizational activities and advocacy priorities.
- Create clear and engaging content, including posts, photographs, short videos, graphics, interviews and workers’ stories.
- Cover union activities, training sessions, meetings and campaigns, and prepare timely updates.
- Develop accessible materials explaining workers’ rights, union activities and key advocacy messages.
- Monitor comments and messages, respond to routine inquiries, and refer sensitive questions or cases to the responsible staff.
- Track audience engagement and use the findings to improve content and outreach.
- Obtain informed consent before publishing workers’ images or stories and protect confidential information.
- Communication with Local Union Leaders and Members
- Maintain regular communication with local union leaders and members to share information and gather updates on workplace concerns and union activities.
- Coordinate with local unions to collect stories, photographs and information for communication and advocacy.
- Share announcements, campaign materials, meeting information and relevant updates through agreed communication channels.
- Support communication between CFSWF staff and local unions, ensuring that information is clear, timely and accessible.
- Gather feedback from members, including women and underrepresented workers, and communicate relevant concerns to the responsible team.
- Support local union leaders in using social media and basic communication tools effectively and responsibly.
- Advocacy and Campaign Support
- Work with the program and leadership teams to identify advocacy priorities based on workers’ concerns and organizational objectives.
- Help develop advocacy plans, campaign messages and communication materials on workers’ rights, working conditions, gender equality, occupational safety and health, and social protection.
- Collect and organize workers’ testimonies and supporting information to inform advocacy messages.
- Draft campaign statements, briefing notes, press releases, talking points and other materials for review and approval.
- Support the organization of campaigns, consultations, policy dialogues and other advocacy activities.
- Coordinate with relevant partners, civil society organizations and media contacts under the guidance of the supervisor.
- Monitor relevant public discussions and media coverage and share updates with the team.
- Document advocacy activities, stakeholder responses and follow-up actions.
- Media Relations and Organizational Communication
- Maintain an updated list of relevant journalists, media outlets and communication partners.
- Support media outreach, interview arrangements and preparation of approved information for journalists.
- Ensure that public materials use consistent organizational messages, branding and accurate information.
- Maintain an organized archive of photographs, videos, publications and communication materials.
- Planning and Reporting
- Prepare monthly communication and advocacy workplans in coordination with the supervisor.
- Submit concise reports on completed activities, audience engagement, member feedback, challenges and next steps.
- Coordinate with program staff to document results and prepare communication inputs for organizational and donor reporting.

- Bachelor's Degree in communications, media, journalism, public relations, social sciences, international relations or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience will also be considered
- Communications, social media, advocacy, community engagement or a related role for 2 years as a minimum
- Experience working with trade unions, workers, community organizations or civil society is an advantage.
- Strong written and spoken Khmer, with working English skills for communication and reporting.
- Ability to create social media content and use basic graphic design, photography and video-editing tools.
- Ability to explain complex issues in clear language for different audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate respectfully with union leaders and members.
- Good planning, coordination and record-keeping skills.
- Willingness to travel to local unions and activity locations as required.
- Commitment to workers’ rights, freedom of association and collective bargaining.
- Respect for gender equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Sensitivity when communicating with workers experiencing disputes, discrimination, harassment or other difficulties.
