About CKS

The Center for Khmer Studies (CKS) is an American international non-profit organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) with headquarters in Siem Reap and an office in Phnom Penh. CKS operates as a vibrant educational and cultural hub through our study abroad programs, public library, and our fellowship programs and activities, including capacity-building trainings, workshops, public hybrid lectures, and community events. 

We actively connect and support Cambodian and international students and scholars, while working with partner universities, private donors, government institutions, and grantmaking foundations.

Position Summary

  • Reporting to: Deputy Director
  • Salary: Competitive (up to $900 with other benefits)
  • Holidays: Follows official Cambodian public holidays
  • Flexibility Required: The candidate must be flexible to work outside standard hours when operational needs arise. This includes accompanying study abroad program tours, supporting special events at our main campus in Siem Reap, and handling occasional weekend commitments or domestic travel.

Job Description

The Marketing and Communications Officer leads CKS's communications and digital engagement. The role is responsible for strengthening the organization's brand, promoting academic programs and library resources, increasing public visibility, and engaging researchers, students, partners, donors, and the broader public through digital platforms and strategic communications.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Digital Communications, Social Media, and AI Integration:
  • Develop and implement CKS's social media strategy across Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and X.
  • Leverage AI tools (such as Gemini Pro) to draft, optimize, and streamline bilingual (Khmer-English) social media and web content.
  • Maintain a monthly content calendar covering fellowships, library services, publications, events, and institutional news.
  • Manage online communities by responding to inquiries, monitoring engagement, and leveraging automation tools.
  • Strategic Content Development and Curation:
  • Produce high-quality visual and multimedia content, including graphics, videos, and promotional materials.
  • Write compelling stories showcasing CKS research, fellows, programs, and institutional impact.
  • Utilize AI translation tools to accelerate workflow while ensuring cultural accuracy, nuance, and editorial standard alignment for Khmer and English outputs.
  • Maintain CKS branding and editorial standards.
  • Website, Marketing & Analytics:
  • Maintain and update the CKS website with news, fellowship announcements, events, and publications.
  • Produce and distribute regular e-newsletters to donors, alumni, academic partners, and subscribers using AI and automation tools.
  • Monitor digital performance using analytics tools and prepare monthly reports with recommendations to optimize reach and engagement.
  • Public Relations & Event Promotion:
  • Organize and manage online and hybrid events including webinars and workshops ensuring smooth technical operations and participant engagement.
  • Promote CKS programs, including fellowship calls, workshops, public lectures, conferences, exhibitions, and library events.
  • Prepare press releases, media kits, and promotional materials.
  • Maintain active relationships with media outlets, universities, and partner organizations.
Expected Profile of Candidates
Languages:
  • Khmer - Good
  • English - Good
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, or digital media
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • The ideal candidate should possess strong digital communication, content creation, social media management, and event coordination skills, with excellent Khmer and English proficiency.
  • Experience in the higher education, research, or NGO sector and familiarity with AI and digital marketing tools will be an advantage.
