Makerspace Coordinator and STEAM Facilitator
The Makerspace Coordinator and STEAM Facilitator will be responsible for maintaining the Middle School and High School Makerspace and assisting with technology and STEAM instruction. This includes demonstrating and overseeing the safe use of equipment, supporting student activities and handling administrative tasks (including the ordering and storage of equipment and supplies). The coordinator will collaborate closely with teachers, especially the Technology Teacher and Technology Coordinator, to support the CIS STEAM Program. The coordinator will use creative problem-solving and share their love of making and tinkering. They will inspire young learners to design, prototype and collaborate. As a STEAM facilitator, they will support the classroom teacher to deliver curricular objectives.
CIS’s Makerspace opened in 2021. It is an open plan, collaborative workspace equipped with both high-tech and low-tech tools used for making and creating. All Middle School and High School students visit the Makerspace on a regular basis.
- Maintain and support the day-to-day operations of the Makerspace and its technologies, including using power tools, computer technologies, 3D printers, laser cutters, etc.
- Develop and maintain a materials list based on the needs and wants of teachers and students
- Travel to multiple locations to get equipment when needed
- Manage the budget and submit purchase order forms for equipment in the Makerspace
- Ensure safe operation of the Makerspace through creating safety procedures
- Assist in the monitoring of students and ensure students’ safety in the Makerspace
- Collaborate with other departments and staff members to maximize the use of the Makerspace
- Research, create and implement STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) projects/challenges for students in Grades 6-11 and assist in the instruction of these programs
- Deliver short training and/or orientations on the use of equipment and safety for users of the space
- Support students and staff while completing STEAM projects/challenges
- Qualifications and Experience
- Experience working in an educational environment, ideally an international school
- STEAM educational background or experience with STEAM projects/challenges
- Familiarity with makerspaces and makerspace projects/challenges
- Experience with robotics and programming is also preferred but not required

- Fluent in English (oral and written)

- Knowledge of technologies found in a makerspace (3D printers, laser cutters, power tools, etc.) and the ability to maintain them
- Ability to work independently, organized, and complete assignments with minimal supervision
