Lead Researcher and Associate Researcher Consultant for Citizen Journalism Study

Purpose of the Assignment
The primary objective of this assignment is to engage a Lead Researcher and an Associated Researcher to provide technical support and lead the design, implementation, and analysis of the research. The consultant team will ensure methodological rigor and oversee the research process – supported by two data collectors – responsible for data collection, transcription, and initial findings.
Scope of Work
The Lead Researcher and the Associated Researcher will be responsible for the overall technical quality and integrity of the research, including the following key tasks:
- Research Design and Methodology
- Develop and/or refine the research framework, objectives, and questionnaires
- Design appropriate research methodology (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods)
- Develop sampling strategies and justification
- Design research tools (e.g., questionnaires, interview guides, observation tools)
- Ensure ethical standards and research protocols are followed
- Oversight of Data Collection
- Provide technical guidance and supervision to two data collectors
- Train data collectors on research tools, ethical considerations, and data quality standards
- Monitor data collection processes to ensure consistency and validity
- Address methodological or field-level challenges as they arise
- Data Management, Analysis, and Interpretation
- Lead the data analysis process, including coding, statistical analysis, or thematic analysis as appropriate
- Guide data collectors in transcription and organization of collected data
- Review and validate initial findings prepared by data collectors
- Interpret findings in line with research objectives and context
- Reporting and Dissemination
- Prepare a comprehensive research report including methodology, findings, discussion, and conclusions
- Develop clear, evidence-based recommendations
- Present findings to key stakeholders as required
- Support the preparation of policy briefs, summaries, or presentations if requested
Eligibility
- Advanced degree in social sciences, journalism, media studies, communications, development studies, or a related field;
- Proven experience with at least three years in leading research projects, including research design, methodology and report writing;
- Strong understanding of the Cambodian context, media freedom, international human rights mechanism and framework, rights to access to information, and citizen journalism in Cambodia and the region;
- Strong expertise in sampling techniques and data analysis
- Demonstrated experience supervising research teams or data collectors
- Excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills
- Experience working in similar thematic or geographic contexts is an asset
