Khmer Language Teacher

The Khmer Language Teacher will be responsible for delivering full-time, high-quality Khmer language and culture classes based on the Alberta Khmer Language and Culture Curricula. The teacher will work at the elementary, middle school and/or high school levels. The focus of this instruction will be balanced in the 4 components of language learning: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They will plan lessons and work collaboratively with the Khmer Language Team.

- Bachelor's Degree in Khmer language and literature, or linguistics is required
- Proficiency in written and spoken Khmer
- Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification is required
- Teaching license preferred
- Experience teaching Khmer language and culture
- Experience teaching in an inquiry-based and/or play-based setting preferred
- Proficiency in English enabling conceptual explanations of language concepts and active participation in discussions with the Languages Team regarding curricula
- Experience working in an international context or culturally diverse setting an asset

Parent Relations Officer

CIS seeks a native Khmer speaker, diplomatic communicator and engaging facilitator for the position of Parent Relations Officer. The successful candidate will serve as an effective liaison with families, as well as an efficient interlocutor between internal teams. They will resolve parent inquiries, manage the Main Reception area, contact parents on behalf of teachers, and support parent events. The position would be suitable for a mature, approachable, highly organized individual with refined customer service skills. Candidates who also have Korean or Mandarin language skills are especially encouraged to apply.

- Promptly answer phone calls in a pleasant, informed manner
- Greet and assist students, families and other guests arriving in person
- Inform staff of visitor arrivals by phone, email or chat message
- Label incoming mail and shipments, and inform the owners that the items have arrived
- Contact parents and other relevant parties when needed
- Work closely with teachers and the principals to update student attendance records
- Receive parent queries and see them through to resolution by liaising with relevant teams and departments

Science Laboratory Technician

The Science Laboratory Technician ensures the smooth running of the laboratories and stock room to support teaching and learning for the Alberta Education’s Program of Study (Science) in middle school Grades 7-9 and high school Grades 10-12, as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program Chemistry, Biology and Physics. This involves preparing equipment and materials for labs/demonstrations, maintaining safety and safety equipment during all activities, cleaning up and disposing of materials after lessons, coordinating the department’s budget, lab timetables and resources, and maintaining stock levels of disposable materials.
- Cocreate required experiments with teachers based upon the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program SL and HL programs and Alberta Education Grades 6-12 Program of Study
- Coordinate the department’s budget, lab timetables and resource orders
- Carry out risk assessments for practical and technical activities; help to maintain a safe environment in the science laboratories
- Maintain, repair and take inventory of lab equipment; manage stocks of chemicals and order more when necessary
- Ensure equipment is properly cleaned after use and is stored safely; work with teachers to improve equipment
- Take part in laboratory work during lessons when required and instructing small groups of students on safety and background knowledge
- Budget resources in the Science Department
- Communicate in English and Khmer with internal and external stakeholders to procure experiment supplies. (e.g. getting cow hearts from the market, ordering products from China, communicating with operations over gas usage, running the Science Department budget)
- Run trials of experiments and demonstrations for pedagogical effectiveness and safety before use in classrooms
- Create a list of curricularl aligned experiments for each class for future teachers so the development of laboratory experiments does not need to be repeated each year
- Experience in laboratory science, education and/or as a lab technician preferred
- Lab and lab safety experience with WHMIS and MSDS, or a willingness to participate in appropriate training.
