Position Summary

"Programme Title: Raising Opportunities, Knowledge, Skills, & Inclusions with Access to Protection and Innovations (ROKSI with API)"

Contract type: Short-term Consultancy Agreement (non-employment contract)

Duration: 03 months

Location: Based in Phnom Penh (with regular field travel to target provinces: Kandal, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmom)

Consultancy fee: USD 300 to 400 gross per month, inclusive of all applicable taxes, duties, and statutory obligations

Report to: Business Coach and Project Officer

Job Purpose

The Junior Business Coach will support the implementation of the ROKSI with API project by engaging informal business owners and workers, conducting outreach activities, supporting and facilitating coaching sessions, and providing basic business development support. Working under the guidance of the Business Coach and Project Officer, the Junior Business Coach will assist participants in improving their business knowledge, strengthening business practices, and accessing relevant support services. The successful candidate will receive coaching and business development training from Mission Alliance and API.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Client Engagement and Assessment
  • Identify and engage informal business owners and workers participating in the ROKSI programme.
  • Build positive and trust-based relationships with clients.
  • Support the assessment of clients' business needs, challenges, and opportunities to inform coaching support activities.
  • Business Coaching and Mentoring
  • Assist in developing and implementing coaching plans to support participants' business improvement goals.
  • Support and facilitate one-on-one, peer-to-peer, and group coaching on business management, customer service, marketing, pricing, and business growth.
  • Support clients in improving financial practices, including budgeting, record-keeping, cash flow management, and savings.
  • Guide clients in using digital tools and platforms to enhance business operations and market access.
  • Monitor client progress and provide ongoing coaching and follow-up support.
  • Facilitation of Peer Learning
  • Facilitate peer-learning sessions and business-sharing activities among programme participants.
  • Encourage knowledge exchange, networking, and collaboration between clients.
  • Promote practical learning through sharing of experiences, challenges, and good practices.
  • Social Protection Awareness and Referral Support
  • Provide basic information and guidance on relevant social protection schemes and business registration processes.
  • Refer clients to appropriate service providers and government agencies when additional support is required.
  • Follow up with clients on actions related to business formalization and access to available services.
  • Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of coaching sessions, participant progress, and action plans.
  • Prepare concise coaching reports and share progress updates with the project team.
  • Document success stories, lessons learned, and good practices emerging from coaching activities.
  • Coordination and Team Collaboration
  • Coordinate closely with the Business Coach, Project Officer, and project team to ensure effective implementation of coaching activities.
  • Participate in planning meetings, training sessions, and project review discussions.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to improve coaching approaches and participant outcomes.
Expected Profile of Candidates
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Management, Marketing, Economics, or a related field
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply. Candidates with internship experience or at least 6 months to 1 year of experience in business development, sales, marketing, customer service, entrepreneurship support, training, community outreach, project implementation, or other business-related work will be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated interest in entrepreneurship, small business development, or supporting micro and informal businesses.
  • Basic understanding of business operations, customer relations, marketing, and financial record-keeping.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse clients.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply coaching tools, methods, and business development concepts.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, digital communication tools, and social media platforms.
  • All applicants must possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively in a team, and proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office 365.
Soft Skills
  • Willingness to travel regularly to project target provinces.
  • High ethical standards, professionalism, and commitment to supporting community development.
  • Interest in entrepreneurship, micro-enterprise development, and livelihood improvement.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in Khmer. Basic facilitation and English communication skills are an advantage.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain positive working relationships with clients and community members.
  • Willingness to learn and apply coaching, mentoring, and business support approaches.
  • Basic knowledge of digital tools and social media for business promotion and communication.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Flexibility to conduct field visits and coaching activities in target provinces.
