Ratanak International is a Canadian-based NGO with a focus on anti-trafficking work. This is a new position supporting the translation and production of manuals on our psychosocial procedures. We are looking for someone with strong initiative, an excellent level of English and an interest in developing their skills in social work.

If you are keen to gain experience in an international NGO setting, this position gives great opportunities to pursue your development, while making a significant contribution to the support of those recovering from trafficking experiences. Ideally you will have an interest and a background in social work and/or psychology, and this position will give opportunities to strengthen those skills in practice. You will need to be a fast and focused worker, who can quickly grasp new concepts and help put them into clear language, both in English and Khmer.

Intern Translator

Position Summary

Schedule: 20- 40 hours a week

Purpose: To support the delivery of high quality services by providing translation and administration support to the RAP team.

Job Brief: The Translation intern will play a key role in supporting the creation of procedures for the Ratanak Achievement program in both English and Khmer. She/he will work with Psychosocial Technical Advisor (PSA) and program staff to understand procedures and support the accurate translation of these into Khmer, as well as providing support for training and other general administrative tasks.

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate translation of program guidance, training materials, brochures and other documents between English and Khmer.
  • Follow up with team members to ensure translation meets their needs and continue to develop technical vocabulary and program familiarity to ensure translation is accurate.
  • Shadow program staff to better understand their work and application of procedures.
  • Provide simultaneous and consecutive translation for internal meetings as required,
  • Assist in updating documentation such as program materials, brochures and internal documents.
  • Type up training materials, editing content as instructed and maintaining/ improving format and style
  • Review documents for grammatical accuracy and for accuracy of references and quoted facts.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as assigned by PSA
  • Attend program team meetings and briefings as required.
  • Engage in ongoing personal development in relevant areas.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Well organized and systematic in approach to work.
  • Desire and ability to learn new skills.
  • Commitment to good teamwork and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience & Skills:
  • Essential:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Psychology, Social work or related field.
  • Able to speak, read and write English at a level equivalent to IELTS 6 or above.
  • Excellent attention to detail, including strong accuracy in written translation.
  • Good understanding of using computers, including Microsoft Office programs.
  • Good time management, prioritization and initiative.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Desired:
  • At least 2 years’ experience in administrative or office role. 
  • Experience of working in an NGO context.
  • Attending and involved in a local church.
