Hydrology and Water Quality Modeling Specialist
The Hydrology and water quality modeling specialist will be recruited based on an open and competitive process and contracted under the WP2. The objective of this assignment is to Evaluation of sediment and water quality management under anthropogenic activities and climate change. The project’s target area falls within three communities in the province of Kampong Speu, at relevant national and sub-national government provincial departments. The specialist will work closely with the Project manager and project coordinator for review and comments and submit the agreed expected deliverables for approval.
- Conduct data collection, analysis, and field assessments related to field-scale erosion-prone areas and communities’ risk to watershed deterioration.
- Collaborate with the project team and relevant stakeholders to identify data requirements, develop data collection methodologies, and ensure data quality and accuracy.
- Apply conventional sediment/erosion and water quality modelling within the designated project area based on available hydrological and climate data.
- Access communities’ adaptation and need assessment on watershed deterioration adaptation.
- Collaborate with national and provincial authorities to produce pilot and training on strengthening community’s adaption on watershed deterioration.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and other project deliverables related to sediment and water quality modelling activities.
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and meetings to share knowledge and exchange experiences with other stakeholders in the field of flood management and climate resilience.
- Collaborate with consultants and project staff to ensure integration and synergy among different work packages and project activities.
- Other tasks may be required by the project implementation agency.
- At least a master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., environmental science, water resources management, or related discipline).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in project implementation or research, preferably in the field of watershed management or environmental projects.
- Using/developing experiences of sediment/erosion and water quality modelling, water quality monitoring methods, and environmental assessment tools.
- Understanding of integrated river basin management principles and familiarity with relevant policies and regulations.
- Knowledge and/or experiences on climate change impact, adaptation, and mitigation.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team and engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office and data analysis tool or software (e.g., SPSS, R program).
- Knowledge of the Mekong River Basin context and environmental challenges is desirable.
- Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work in challenging environments as needed.
