Conservation International-Greater Mekong Program (CI) has worked in Cambodia since 2002. CI has multiple conservation projects in the Central Cardamom Mountains National Park (CCMNP), Tonle Sap Great Lake, Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary, and in the Veun Sai-Siem Pang National Park. CI works in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, other international conservation and development organizations, local non-governmental organizations and the private sector.

Conservation International (CI) is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for the Governance Team Leader for the recently awarded five-year USAID Greening Prey Lang project. 

The USAID Greening Prey Lang project, in partnership with the Royal Government of Cambodia, aims to improve and maintain the health of forest and freshwater ecosystems within and surrounding the Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary by engaging civil society and public entities to work together to consolidate the conservation and sustainable management of the Prey Lang Extended Landscape. To accomplish this, the project provides technical assistance for sustainable landscape management and biodiversity conservation to beneficiaries who depend on ecological services such as clean air and water, biodiversity and food community-based organizations.

Duties
  • Work with the Landscape Manager, and the Greening Prey Lang Governance Manager Lead, Zoning and Demarcation Manager and other Technical Advisors and team members to develop and deliver monthly (incl. budgets) and annual work plans for the governance team;
  • Supervise, mentor and train all governance team members (Governance Field Officers and assistants) to implement monthly and annual work plans;
  • Support PDoE (Kratie, Stung Treng and Kampont Thom) and FAC (Forestry Administration Cantonment – Kampong Thom) to develop an annual and monthly CPA/CF workplan and ensure the plans are coordinately implemented;
  • Provide technical supports to the Northern Tonle Sap Team for their CPA development in their the Northern Tonle Sap landscape;
  • Ensure capacity building and management support is provided to the establishment of new and strengthening of existing CPAs to ensure they achieve their forest/wildlife conservation objectives
  • Collaborate with the livelihoods and governance teams to make sure that CPA members are in adherence to the PA law, regulation, conservation principles and community by-laws
  • Support the development of zoning plans for protected areas in the landscape by coordinating activities relating to government, community, CSO and private-sector engagement;
  • Support the Zoning and Demarcation Manager to implement PA zoning activities in the landscape;
  • Work closely with provincial land department to support the legal land tenure and/or land use instruments on land management.
  • Work closely with PDoE and PDoAFF for sustainable land and forest management, and PA management.
  • In collaboration with supervisor's support donor specific data entry and narrative reporting requirements.
  • Any other work assignments, duties, and/or functions as CI or its management may designate or instruct in the course of its operation, which may include assignments, duties, and/or functions that vary from the above.
Requirements
  • Master’s and/or Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Forestry, Climate Change, Development Studies, or other relevant development field,
  • 5-10 years of experience in natural resources management, land or forest governance, capacity building, and local stakeholder issues,
  • Experience working with government institutions preferably PDoE and FAC.
  • Strong interest in protecting Cambodia’s natural environment
  • Knowledge and experience on CF or CPA, and PA zoning
  • Fluent spoken and written Khmer and intermediate spoken and written English
  • Verbal communication and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge in computer of Microsoft Office.
  • Physically fit and able to trek and camp in rural/forest conditions over multiple days
  • Able to ride a motorbike under difficult field conditions
  • Local knowledge of Kampong Thom province and Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Willingness to obtain new skills and attention to detail
