Position Summary
The GEDSI Transformative Enterprise Development Advisor will work in partnership with private companies, private institutions, business associations and other private sector entities to support and strengthen participation by and outcomes for women and diverse others, particularly the most marginalized. The role will also work with key government partners (including MOWA, MEF, SNEC, and MOC), other development partners and civil society stakeholders to promote a stronger policy framework for GEDSI.
The GEDSI Transformative Enterprise Development Advisor (GTEDA) will work in alignment with and to fulfill the intentions of the CAPRED GEDSI Strategy. The GTEDA will report to the GEDSI Lead, working closely with the GEDSI and Stakeholder Engagement Advisor (GSEA) and GEDSI Policy Advisor (GPA), ensuring complementarity and strong coordination across approaches and interventions. They will also work collaboratively with Facility team members, particularly those engaged in enterprise development, to support GEDSI integration across all Facility work.
- Leadership:
- Design and lead implementation of GTED interventions including CAPRED’s flagship work on the care economy, with support from GEDSI Lead and other senior managers,
- Lead and promote cutting-edge GEDSI-transformative enterprise development (GTED) thinking across CAPRED; remain informed and up to date with, and proactively share emerging evidence and support its application across CAPRED’s work
- Technical:
- Support private sector actors to pilot and ultimately scale on care economy and GEDSI transformative market solutions, based on the CAPRED GTED approach
- In collaboration with GEDSI-oriented civil society actors and business interests, support policy reform and implementation towards an enabling environment for GTED and the flourishing of GEDSI-transformative enterprises (GTEs)
- Directly with private sector partners and indirectly through CAPRED technical staff as needed, support implementation of GEDSI-transformative capacity development for willing companies to address discriminatory norms and attitudes including unconscious bias, through strengthened policy, practice and culture, based on current legal and policy framework and best practice
- Contribute to implementation and periodic review of CAPRED’s GEDSI Strategy
- Stakeholder management:
- Collectively with the GEDSI Unit, maintain and build constructive relationships within the Facility team and partners, including developing and implementing agreed approaches to address resistance and backlash
- Commission, supervise and support consultants to perform research and advisory support to GTED and care economy interventions
- Contribute to gathering and communicating monitoring, evaluation, research and other knowledge, learning, evidence and analysis on GTED (and GEDSI more broadly), in collaboration with the CAPRED MERL and Comms teams
- Maintain and build productive external networks and coalitions for learning, sharing and advocacy on GTED including sharing research, evidence and joint learning through dynamic and effective means
- Other duties as agreed with the GEDSI Lead
- Compliance:
- Ensure stakeholders will operate within Cowater and DFAT-related codes of conduct and policies including all inclusion-related policies such as Child Protection and PSEAH; antifraud and corruption; value for money and other policies
- Selection Criteria:
- Strong demonstrated experience in GEDSI in relation to enterprise development and/or the private sector; minimum of seven years in related roles or equivalent combination of professional experience, qualifications and lived experience of gender or other marginalization
- Tertiary qualifications related to GEDSI and/or business development, private sector practice, investment (or equivalent combination as above)
- Strong technical understanding of contemporary thinking and practice in GEDSI and demonstrated skills in applying transformative development approaches
- Strong interpersonal skills including capacity to work productively and sensitively with people at all levels and with diverse identities and lived experience
- Excellent written and spoken English essential
- Ability to work independently when required; and commitment to collaboration and mutual learning
