Announcement Description

The HALO Trust’s mission is: “To lead the effort to save lives and restore livelihoods for those affected by conflict”. HALO is known for its work to clear landmines but is increasingly involved in the disposal of other explosive ordnance and weapon control.

When you become a Field Officer in HALO, you join a team with a shared commitment to making a difference in some of the most vulnerable communities in the world. HALO offers a full training package for the role of Field Officer, so you do not require previous knowledge of landmine clearance or ordnance disposal. We want people who have a sense of adventure but are responsible and mature. We are looking for leaders who are resilient and self-motivated to command our teams and manage operations.

HALO’s Field Officers work across our programmes in various roles and with significant responsibilities. You will need the aptitude to be able to work in dynamic and challenging environments and you should have proven management and leadership skills. The HALO training course will prepare you for deployment to one of our programmes where you could be commanding between 250 and 1,000 local employees. As part of the Field Officer training course, you will receive broad based training which includes mine clearance, basic explosive ordnance disposal and minefield survey as well as other skills such as finance, logistics, security and quality management. This will prepare you for work in the programme, that ranges from equipment auditing and writing reports and proposals, to repairing vehicles and managing clearance operations.

Working for HALO is hugely rewarding. It is also physically and mentally challenging, for example working in remote locations and living in very basic conditions. You will be based overseas for a minimum of two years and as an international employee, you must be flexible and be willing to be posted to any of HALO's programmes.
