Room to Read is a global organization dedicated to developing children’s foundational literacy and life skills. Room to Read Cambodia is conducting a comprehensive mixed-methods Program Review of its Literacy Portfolio in Battambang province. This review assesses the implementation fidelity, program effectiveness, and sustainability Literacy Program – Instruction Only (LPI). We are seeking qualified, detail-oriented individuals to join our data collection team.

Position Summary

Program: Literacy Program (LP)

Location: Battambang Province, Cambodia (covering 4 intervention districts)

Assignment Period: July 2026 (Includes 6 days of training and 12 days of fieldwork), 7th to 24th July, 2026

Roles & Responsibilities by Position

All selected 18 external enumerators will be divided into 3 teams that each team will exist one team leader, one Key Information Interviewing (KII) assessor, one Data Quality Assessor, and three Early Grade Learning Skill (EGLS) assessors.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • They all will responsible as the team for the following tasks:
  • Training Participation: Attend and actively participate in all training sessions that are scheduled in Battambang city from 8th to 12th July 2026.
  • Moderation and Facilitation: Conduct data collection in 10 days in the assigned schools by each team from 13th to 23rd July 2026.
  • Daily Reporting: Complete scheduled activities each day, clearly communicating the number of interviews scheduled and verbal reporting to the RtR RME team lead for progress monitoring.
  • Note-Taking: Take interview notes in Khmer and review & compile them to ensure data integrity, minimizing errors during data collection.
  • Tracking: Fill in the interview/ observation trackers at the end of each day and do the English translation in some necessary parts.
  • Communication: Maintain regular communication with the Team Lead and Room to Read RM&E staff to report any observations or issues.
  • Additional Tasks: Complete other tasks as needed by the RtR RM&E team
Benefits:
  • Training Allowance: $25.00 per day during the 6-day package training period (including one day travel for those who are not currently living in the city of Battambang).
  • Fieldwork Allowance: $30.00 per day during the 12-day data collection period (including one day distance travel of 24th July and Sunday of 19th July, for those who are not currently living in the city of Battambang).
  • Insurance: Provided by Room to Read for the duration of the assignment.
  • Logistics Support: The distance travel from city of Battambang to school and from school to school will be provided by the organization.
  • Withholding tax on service: it will be the additional directly paid by the organization.
Expected Profile of Candidates
Languages:
  • Khmer - Fluent
  • English - Good
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field as a minimum
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Language Proficiency: Excellent Khmer (spoken and written) and good English (spoken and written) skills.
  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively face-to-face, over the telephone/virtually, and in writing.
  • Works Experience: Proven experience and skills in quantitative and qualitative data collection work. Training in data collection and/or research methods is an added advantage. Experience conducting interviews and focus group discussions with varied audiences (adults and minors).
  • Sector Experience: Prior experience working in the education sector, particularly with adolescent boys and girls, is a plus.
  • Technology Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in tablet using and computer applications (such as word processing, email, and internet utilization).
  • Organizational Skills: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, able to effectively engage with stakeholders ranging from school children, parents to school teachers and internal colleagues. A strong team player.
  • Self-Starter: Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and fast learner; resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges.
  • Curiosity and Openness: Intellectually curious with a willingness to share opinions with the team and encourage diverse perspectives.
Soft Skills
  • Integrity and Ethics: Interact with respondents with high integrity and understanding, strictly following the instructions and ethical protocols, as well as following the child protection policies of Room to Read Cambodia.
  • Age and Authorization: Must be at least 18 years old and have work authorization in Cambodia.
  • Child Protection: Must never have been convicted of any offense related to the exploitation or abuse of a child.
