Environmental & Climate Change Education Trainer

Position Summary

Contract type: Full-time fixed duration contract staff for 6 months, possibility of extension

Location: Phnom Penh and frequently traveling to provinces

Report to: Head of Program

Job purpose

API is looking for a full-time fixed duration contract "Environmental & Climate Change Education Trainer" who is responsible for delivering Environmental & Climate Change Education Learning for Youth of the EU-funded project through Bread for the World “Build One ASEAN of Sustainability and Solidarity with a Partnership between Youth, CSOs and the Members States, (A-SASSY) Project in Cambodia. The trainer will implement components: School-based learning and digital learning platform for youth on Environmental & Climate Change Education. Its overall objective is to equip youth with knowledge of environment and climate change and the capacity to better manage climate risks and to enhance youth-led initiatives on climate actions and advocacy.

Through implementing activities below together with partners in Cambodia with Save the Children in Cambodia (SC), Mlup Baitong Organisation (MB), University of Management and Economics (UME), and the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports (MoEYS).

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Key expected results and responsibilities:
  • Review and improve current training materials on Environmental & Climate Change Education in Khmer and or English.
  • Operate e-learning platforms on Environmental & Climate Change Education in Khmer with 100 schools and universities in Cambodia.
  • Implement and facilitate 1-to-2-day webinars and in-person trainings/workshops on Environmental & Climate Change Education in 100 schools and universities in Cambodia.
  • And other activities contributing to the project’s goal and the organization’s mission.
  • The trainer will work closely with the API Project Team and partner schools & teachers to achieve the following expected results:
  • Output 1: At the end of the project (2026), 1 million young people in age brackets 15-35 in Cambodia have access/register to the public e-learning platforms on Environmental & Climate Change Education, Youth for Sustainable Development Goals, and Digital Literacy (education materials).
  • Output 2: 20,000 young people (at least 50% girls/women, LGBTQI+) trained in webinars and in-person courses report increased knowledge and skills in the use of participatory tools, climate issues, and confidence to effectively participate and collaborate with CSOs and government in promoting the green transition and disaster risk reduction.
  • Output.3: Digital environmental education for young people of different age groups is included in extra and/or main curricula in 100 schools and universities in Cambodia.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Environment Education, Climate Change, Natural Resource Management, and relevant field (only).
  • At least three years of experience in similar projects as a trainer or educator in the field of environmental education, Climate Change, and Natural Resource Management. Etc.
  • Strong teaching skills and using e-learning tools at high schools and university students and teachers in Khmer.
  • Demonstrated strong passion for the project objective, “equip youth with knowledge of environment and climate change and the capacity to better manage climate risks and to enhance youth-led initiatives on climate actions and advocacy,” and API’s vision and mission.
  • All applicants must have good interpersonal skills, a proven ability to work well in a team, and proficiency in the use of standard software packages, i.e., Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
