Overview

The Coordinator, LSN and Community Engagement position will plan and develop dynamic partnerships to enhance the effectiveness and expand the scope of IJM Cambodia’s project impact. This position will envision, develop, and execute IJM Cambodia’s strategy to mobilize, connect, and equip community-based groups, stakeholders and survivor networks. These actors will serve as agents of change to identify labor trafficking in their communities and refer cases; support survivors of trafficking who return home; grow provincial movements and inspire community groups to raise their voices to end labor trafficking in their communities.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position reports to the Head, Community and Government Engagment.

Key Result Areas

  • The success of this role is measured by key result areas which are listed below:
  • Gain mastery over IJM’s community engagement, mobilization and survivor voice/LSN theory, approach, and historical work in Cambodia in order to lead and drive forward IJM Cambodia’s work in these areas over the coming years.
  • Develop and implement a distinct strategy for engagement with community-based networks and survivor groups – which aligns with Vision 2030, FO program lifetime strategy, CGE and Casework program objectives – so that both groups more effectively activate and catalyze local and national leaders to strengthen government in responses to labor trafficking nationwide.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to collaborate with key community-based group and stakeholders and survivor voice partners in strategic locations for IJM’s Casework and Partnerships engagements and build relationships of trust with these partners, connecting them with relevant IJM personnel and/or formal IJM casework partner NGOs;
  • Equip and connect with community-based group, stakeholders and survivor groups to identify and refer TIP cases to IJM;
Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Leadership: Responsible for communicating and driving community engagement, mobilization, and survivor voice vision and strategies in alignment with overall Community and Government Engagement strategies. Contributes to new partner initiatives and processes to enhance and expand the scale of IJM’s program in Cambodia.
  • Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation: Responsible for developing strategies that lead to community-based groups, stakeholders, and survivor voice stakeholders engaging with IJM and IJM’s clients to amplify the program impact and accelerate the achievement of goals.
  • Develop strategies to target key local community-based groups, stakeholders, and local survivor networks to enhance IJM Cambodia’s casework, Community and Government Engagement and Justice System strengthening efforts. Specifically:
  • Community members understand how to identify trafficking and refer cases;
  • Returning survivors have a web of support in their communities;
  • Vulnerable populations experience greater connectedness with police and other government departments and increased trust in the public justice system;
  • IJM’s partners gain access to our community-based group and stakeholder networks, and vice versa.
  • Equip these community-based groups and stakeholders and survivor agents of change with the ability to drive system reform through targeted advocacy efforts, messaging, etc.
  • Networking & Partnership: Responsible to map, develop and maintain relations, alliances and coalitions within and outside the organization with key relevant partners for active engagement and enhancement of IJM’s programs.
  • Leverage existing networks and relationships to provide concrete casework and advocacy gains for IJM’s anti-trafficking work;
  • Represent IJM at conferences, workshops and other forums, growing the network of leaders and influencers who are supportive of and excited by IJM’s work in Cambodia;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local community-based groups, stakeholders, and survivors – leveraging those relationships to support and advance any and all of IJM Cambodia’s goals.
  • Training and Development:
  • Lead the development of tools, curricula and other content to equip community and survivor groups with tools and knowledge to support why and how they can combat labor trafficking in their communities and deliver training in strategic locations to strategic audiences, ensuring the impact of training are measured and assessed;
  • Work closely with the Lead, Community and Church Mobilization, and Senior Coordinator, Government Engagement, to initiate relevant projects that mobilize and empower community actors and promote the IJM Theory of Change in community events.
  • Events and Logistics:
  • Organize and host strategic events to promote meaningful dialogue and conversations around IJM’s theory of change with stakeholders;
  • Lead community and survivor voice engagement events strategically and effectively.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Education & Experience:
  • Graduate degree in humanities, social work, law, human rights, international development or related field, or equivalent work experience;
  • At least 3 years’ experience engaging diverse community groups and/or local church/survivor networks to drive project impact;
  • Experience addressing trafficking in persons in Cambodia is strongly preferred;
  • Experience working alongside complementary NGOs to deliver program objectives;
  • Project management experience and capacity-building experience are desirable.

Senior Coordinator, Communications and Media

Overview

The Senior Coordinator, Communications and Media will develop and distribute compelling story content and key messages in both Khmer and English for national, regional and global audiences. This position is responsible for initiating an effective and efficient communications plan to amplify the impact of IJM Cambodia’s progress and success in labor trafficking, increase buy-in to IJM’s model and theory of change, and deliver communications that empower survivors and give them a strong voice to activate change. This role guides planning, coordination, management, and delivery of IJM Cambodia's strategic communications creative content development and media engagement. This role will also ensure brand and messaging alignment across all publications, stories, and collaterals produced in IJM Cambodia.

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Strategy & Development & Implementation: In consultation with FO leadership and IJM global communications staff, develop and execute a communications plan designed to elevate IJM’s program visibility and the impact of program success in both Khmer and English mediums.
  • Communication: Creation of communications content in accordance with the strategic plan, delivery of content through multiple formats, tracking labor trafficking coverage related to Cambodia.
  • Liaise with IJM Cambodia program staff and partners to identify story ideas.
  • Manage the production of compelling story packages (narratives and images) that can be shared on IJM’s website and social media platforms.
  • Develop story resources for external publication as well as internal use by IJM Cambodia, Regional Hub and Global Communications teams aligned with the branding guidelines.
  • Manage the coordination and prioritisation of creative projects and content across the organization; ensure content reflects the work in IJM in Cambodia and is appropriately tailored for unique channels, audiences, and objectives
  • Actively monitor, compile, and analyze news related to justice (human trafficking, migration, etc. from print, broadcast and digital media (websites and social media).
  • Ensure IJM Cambodia staff engaged in public speaking have access to adequate visual support for storytelling on global and/or local content databases.
  • Manage social media platforms by ensuring that contents are up to date and increasing understanding of the impact and importance of the work.
  • Build the capacity of caseworkers and field staff to supply sufficient and quality information and resources to build news and stories that showcase various aspects of IJM’s unique and transformative work
  • Manage knowledge of communications resources at IJM Cambodia.
  • Provide quality assurance for communications resources based on approved global corporate identity and brand.
  • Training and Development: Facilitate orientation and training for staff and, as necessary, partners on communications, storytelling, messaging and media and brand guidelines.
  • Clerical and Administration: Provide excellent Khmer-English written and oral translation where the translation work is complex, urgent or otherwise unsuitable for translation by external contractors.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts/Humanities, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a related field, or equivalent work experience;
  • Three years’ professional experience in story writing, internal messaging development and editing desirable;
  • Portfolio of excellent published work that demonstrates expertise, creativity and ability to fit varying audiences;
  • Experience coordinating or managing communications or storytelling projects desirable;
  • Experience working and networking with the media an advantage;
  • Experience in Khmer-English translation of legal/technical text, and real-time oral translation in meetings and speaking engagements required.
  • Technical Competencies:
  • Exceptional ability in writing, storytelling and editing;
  • Photography and video clip shooting skills;
  • Excellent translation skills;
  • Good grasp of digital media – news site, websites, blogs, FB, Instagram and Twitter;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good media relations background
  • Excellent skills in providing capacity building training
