Position Background:

Since 2003, WCS has provided technical and financial assistance to the management of Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary (KSWS) in the Eastern Plains Landscape. The Keo Seima REDD+ Project, which covers the core Zone of KSWS, is Cambodia’s flagship REDD+ project. It was the first large REDD+ project developed in Cambodia, the first to receive a multi-million-dollar carbon sale, and it is the longest running. In the ten years since it started, the project has demonstrated that emissions reductions can be achieved while maintaining a gold rating for benefiting local communities. A household livelihood survey is planned for villages in and around the Core Protection Area in KSWS for July 2025. This survey is intended to build upon similar surveys undertaken in 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2022, and will focus on household livelihoods in 20 villages identified as of key importance for the REDD+ project at the site. As such, it aims to update understanding of livelihoods in those villages.

Position Summary:

The research team coordinator will be responsible for providing the following specific services:

  1. Advise on the development of survey instruments, including questionnaires and protocols, to implement the surveys.
  2. Recruit and train researchers to undertake household survey.
  3. Test and assist in any necessary revision of survey instruments.
  4. Implement 2022 household and village surveys, digitize and clean data.
  5. Provide input to the final report and any academic outputs as required.

Bidder Eligibility

  • REQUIREMENTS:
  • At least five years’ experience in conducting socio-economic interview-based surveys. Experience of working in Mondolkiri Province preferred.
  • Strong experience in independently managing a team of consultants and social research field logistics.
  • Proven ability to arrange and coordinate field work and coordinate efficiently with local authorities where required.
  • Proven ability to collect community-based socio-economic data and accurately enter data into a database.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise reports and presentations.
  • Strong record of supporting publishing in high-impact scientific journals.
  • Experience in training/capacity building.

Submission Requirements

Proposed schedule:

The proposed schedule of work would be undertaken between Jun and October 2025. The consultant would be contracted for 900 household sample days over this period.

Consultant Applications must include a full cost proposal to complete this SOW detailing:

  • Consultant team daily rates (evidence of historical daily rates to be providing as supporting documentation).
  • Travel, accommodation, interview/meeting estimated costs for SOW
